JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Description

Our clients operate a dynamic, highly productive 6,000-acre aggregation spanning three properties in the reliable and picturesque Holbrook district of the NSW Riverina. The enterprise combines an intensive commercial Angus breeding and trading operation with high-performing pasture improvement and winter fodder cropping. They foster an encouraging, professional, and forward-thinking team culture where good work is recognised, ideas are valued, and further training across modern machinery, feeding systems, and livestock handling is actively supported.

Working under the guidance of an experienced Farm Manager, this role offers real diversity across stock, machinery, and station development. It is the ideal next step for a capable operator seeking daily autonomy, top-tier infrastructure, and long-term career progression in a thriving rural community.

The Operation

The enterprise is centred on an elite commercial Angus breeding herd of 1,000 cows, utilising industry-leading genetics, with heifers joined through an extensive artificial insemination (AI) program. In addition, an intensive grass-fed trading program backgrounding 1,500 to 2,000 head is run annually to supply dedicated supermarket contracts. To drought-proof the business and maintain consistent weight gains year-round, recent incorporation of feedlot pens utilising a grain-free ration allows cattle to be finished or maintained through drier seasons.

The farming enterprise integrates 500 to 700 hectares of winter fodder and grain crops-including grazing canola and wheat grown for silage, hay, and harvest-alongside 150 hectares of annual perennial pasture renovation. The properties are exceptionally well equipped with modern tractors, airseeders, spray rigs, articulated loaders, and feed mixer wagons, backed by clean workshops and well-maintained laneways.

The Role

Working closely with the Manager, you will play an active, hands-on role across daily livestock care, machinery operation, feeding programs, and general station presentation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with all cattle husbandry across the breeding and trading herds, including daily health checks, calving observation, low-stress mustering, drafting, weighing, yard work, and truck loading.
  • Participating in herd reproduction programs, including AI preparation, pregnancy testing, bull testing, and calf marking.
  • Operating articulated loaders and tractor-drawn mixer wagons to prepare and feed out rations to cattle in containment pens as required.
  • Operating and servicing modern station machinery, including tractors, airseeders, spray rigs, bobcats, buggies, and two-wheel motorbikes.
  • Undertaking routine maintenance, welding, and fencing repairs (both conventional and electric systems).
  • Assisting with pasture spraying, weed management, and property presentation, ensuring paddocks, yards, and workshops are kept orderly and free of debris.
  • Maintaining clean, serviced gear and reporting machinery hours and operational records accurately.

About the Candidate

If you are an energetic, practical, and self-motivated farm hand with 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience who takes genuine pride in clean machinery, quality cattle, and well-kept country, this is an outstanding opportunity to join a progressive, family-owned agribusiness., We are searching for an honest, switched-on, and dependable team member who enjoys a varied day, respects equipment, and takes pride in a tidy station environment.

Essential attributes include:

  • 2 to 5 years of practical experience within a commercial cattle or mixed farming operation.
  • Proven competence operating modern tractors and farm implements, with sound preventative maintenance and mechanical awareness.
  • Calm, low-stress approach to handling livestock, with an eye for animal health and welfare.
  • Practical capability in fencing repairs, basic welding, and general farm maintenance.
  • Strong communication skills, reliable work ethic, and the ability to work independently or alongside the team.
  • Current Australian driver's licence (a Heavy Rigid truck licence is highly regarded, or a willingness to obtain one).
  • (Note: Working dogs may be considered strictly by prior approval, non-hunting breeds only).
  • Comfortable 4BR home, power, work ute & $80k-$90k package near Albury/Wagga., A competitive remuneration package of $80,000 to $90,000 base salary (commensurate with experience) is offered, along with a dedicated work ute and fuel for operational duties.
  • Accommodation is a very comfortable four-bedroom family home set in established lawns and tidy surrounds, with electricity supplied. Located just minutes from Holbrook, the position offers easy access to quality local schools, sporting clubs, and services, with Albury (60 km) and Wagga Wagga (80 km) within an easy commute.
