I'm working with an established and growing accountancy group in Harrogate to recruit an Accounts Semi-Senior into its team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in accountancy practice, particularly accounts preparation, and is looking for a business where they can continue developing their skills and progressing their career.
Ideally, we're looking for someone already operating at Semi-Senior level, with good practical accounts preparation experience. However, there is flexibility around the level of appointment. We'd also be interested in speaking with someone slightly more junior who is ready to take the next step, or an experienced Semi-Senior who feels ready to progress towards Senior level. Salary would reflect the successful candidate's experience and the level of responsibility they can undertake.
What is particularly important to this business is finding someone who is driven, enthusiastic and genuinely wants to progress. They want someone with a strong work ethic, who takes pride in their work, embraces new challenges and is keen to develop within a growing organisation.
The role involves:
- Preparing year-end accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders
- Assisting with the preparation of company financial statements
- Preparing interim management accounts
- Undertaking client bookkeeping and maintaining accurate accounting records
- Preparing quarterly VAT returns and supporting Making Tax Digital requirements
- Assisting with the management of a portfolio of clients
- Preparing draft tax computations for manager review, where appropriate
- Liaising with clients to obtain information and resolve queries
- Supporting senior colleagues with accounts preparation and other client requirements
- Assisting with company secretarial duties where required
- Supporting the training and development of apprentices where appropriate
- Undertaking general accountancy duties as required
The emphasis of this opportunity is accounts preparation rather than tax, although there will be some exposure to associated tax work.
You'll ideally have:
- A minimum of 2-3 years' experience within a UK accountancy practice, ideally working at Semi-Senior level
- Practical experience preparing accounts for a variety of clients
- An understanding of VAT returns and associated accounting requirements
- Good organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
- The ability to manage your workload and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and a professional approach to clients
- A proactive attitude and willingness to take on additional responsibility
- A genuine interest in developing your technical skills and progressing your career
- Experience with Xero, IRIS, MyWorkpapers, Sage or QuickBooks would be advantageous
- You may be studying towards AAT, ACA or ACCA, or have gained relevant experience through working in practice
Above all, we're looking for someone who is ambitious, hardworking and determined to succeed. You'll enjoy being part of a busy team, be adaptable to change and have the motivation to develop within a growing organisation.
What's on offer?
This is an opportunity to join an expanding accountancy group where career development is encouraged and strong performance is recognised. The business offers ongoing training and development, study support where applicable and opportunities to progress as your experience grows.
Benefits include:
- 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
- Company pension scheme
- Health cash plan
- Life assurance
- Payment of relevant professional memberships
- Study support where applicable
- Additional employee benefits and social events
The role is Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, with hybrid working available following successful completion of probation, allowing three days in the Harrogate office and two days working from home. Salary is £32,000-£37,500 depending on experience.
