Buying & Planning Coordinator in Kingston

Buying & Planning Coordinator in Kingston

Kingston Full-Time On-site
J

We're a family-run business with a close-knit team, and we're looking for a Buying & Planning Coordinator who wants to get genuinely good at buying.

This is a hands-on role with real ownership from day one. You'll work directly with the Buyer / Procurement Manager, touching every part of the import and product lifecycle, supplier sourcing, purchase orders, shipments, quality, and range performance. Because we're a smaller team, there's no hiding behind process: you'll be trusted with real responsibility early, and your work will have a visible impact on what ends up on shelf.

If you're detail-oriented, commercially sharp, and want to build deep expertise in product buying and import this is a strong environment to do that.

What You'll Own

  • Purchase orders end-to-end β€” raising, tracking, and chasing POs with suppliers; monitoring ETAs and flagging delays early
  • Supplier sourcing β€” source alternative suppliers for existing SKUs, comparing quotes to secure a better price than the current supplier
  • Shipment & Import β€” collating ready-to-ship data from suppliers and acting as the operational bridge between suppliers and the customs agent; ensuring documentation is accurate and clearance runs smoothly
  • Quality control β€” supporting pre-shipment and goods-in checks against spec sheets, logging defects, and maintaining supplier scorecards
  • Range performance β€” analysing sales, stock turn, and margin data to surface slow-movers, gaps, and reorder opportunities
  • Competitor and market tracking β€” benchmarking competitor pricing and researching trends to inform buying decisions

You'll Also Get Exposure To

  • Supplier negotiations (with Manager guidance)
  • New product development and trade fair preparation
  • FX monitoring and pricing risk management
  • Marketing application on product and packaging

What We're Looking For

  • Advanced Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, macros/Power Query a plus)
  • Strong working knowledge of AI tools and genuine interest in keeping current with new tools
  • Naturally price/cost-driven mindset β€” comfortable questioning margins and chasing better deals
  • Understanding of, or experience in, the FMCG or discount/variety retail industry
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Team player with strong communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Available to start immediately

Prior experience in wholesale/import, retail buying, or supply chain highly regarded but not essential.
