The Role
We’re recruiting a Head of Governance, People & Culture for a well-established not-for-profit that delivers aged care, NDIS, veterans’ and clinical services across Tasmania. After a period of transformation, the organisation has a new leadership team, two years of stability behind it and a clear plan for growth. Reporting to the COO, this role leans primarily into governance, risk and compliance, with strategic oversight of people and culture. You’ll start by driving the continuous improvement plan, then build a sustainable clinical and corporate governance framework and help operationalise a new purpose-built 24/7 respite centre. The role starts with no direct reports, but there is strong potential to build a team quickly as the function grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, embed and maintain an enterprise governance, risk and compliance framework with clear accountabilities, registers, controls, reporting and escalation pathways.
- Drive the continuous improvement plan and oversee the policy framework, internal assurance calendar, audit coordination and corrective actions.
- Partner with clinical and service leaders to build sustainable clinical governance, quality and safeguarding systems aligned with aged care, NDIS and other contracted-service standards.
- Coordinate enterprise risk assessment across workforce, WHS, operational, clinical interface, privacy, financial control and regulatory risks.
- Provide clear governance advice and high-quality reporting to the CEO, Board and committees on emerging risks, incidents, trends and progress.
- Mature an integrated People & Culture strategy that supports the organisation’s growth and employer-of-choice commitments, working alongside existing P&C specialists.
- Oversee employee relations, investigations and employment policy, ensuring procedural fairness and alignment with industrial instruments and WHS obligations.
- Strengthen cultural and psychological safety, wellbeing and engagement across a passionate, values-driven workforce.
- Build constructive relationships with regulators, funding bodies, auditors, legal advisers and sector partners.
- Contribute to executive planning, organisational design and sustainable growth decisions as a key member of the leadership group.
Skills & Experience
- Substantial senior leadership experience in governance, risk and compliance, and/or People & Culture with a demonstrated ability to integrate these functions.
- Proven ability to develop enterprise frameworks, turn strategy into practical implementation and report confidently to executives and boards.
- Sound knowledge of Australian employment relations, workplace investigations, organisational change and procedural fairness.
- Exposure to aged care, NDIS or clinical governance standards will be well regarded.
- A firm, steady presence balanced with genuine empathy, comfortable supporting a passionate and emotionally invested workforce while holding the line when it matters.
- Excellent judgement, discretion and stakeholder management, with the ability to juggle competing priorities.
- Experience leading and developing teams and using data to improve organisational outcomes.
Benefits
- Well remunerated role in line with the Tasmania market, with real scope to grow your role and team.
- Genuine flexibility with a monthly RDO or a fortnightly short day through compressed hours, plus 1 to 2 days working from home each week.
- Recently recognised as an Employer of Choice.
- Pet-friendly workplace with a team pet roster and a resident office dog.
- A close-knit, collaborative leadership team where everyone knows everyone.
- Purpose-driven work that makes a real difference to the Tasmanian community, NDIS participants, veterans and their families.
- Tasmanian lifestyle in Launceston, with an easy commute from every direction.
