Project Scheduler in Sydney

Sydney Full-Time On-site
I

INIT Australia is delivering next-generation smart transport technology as part of the Opal Next Generation Program, and we're looking for an experienced Project Scheduler to join our growing team. This landmark program will modernise NSW's ticketing infrastructure and enhance the passenger experience across the public transport network for years to come. The Opal Next Generation Account Based Ticketing program will upgrade existing gates, poles and bus validator infrastructure, integrate advanced back-office technologies, and significantly improve the customer experience across multiple transport modes. The program will run over 13 years, including a three-year design and build phase followed by a 10-year operations and maintenance phase.

The Role

As Project Scheduler, you will play a critical role in establishing and maintaining the integrated program schedule across a complex, multi-workstream technology environment. Working closely with Project Managers, workstream leads and program stakeholders, you will define and challenge delivery approaches, sequencing and dependencies, ensuring plans are realistic, achievable and aligned to key program milestones. Your work will provide visibility of critical path activities, resource constraints and delivery risks while supporting informed decision-making across the program.

More specifically, you'll be responsible for:

Schedule Planning & Integration

  • Develop and maintain integrated program and project schedules aligned to key program milestones and governance baselines.
  • Work with Project Managers and workstream leads to define, challenge and optimise delivery approaches, sequencing and dependencies.
  • Ensure schedule integrity, structure, version control and baseline management across the program.

Critical Path & Dependency Management

  • Own schedule logic, including dependencies, milestone structures and critical path activities.
  • Identify and manage inter-project dependencies, risks, conflicts and potential schedule slippages.
  • Ensure impacts are understood, communicated and actively managed.

Performance Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyse schedule performance, variances and delivery impacts.
  • Develop credible recovery and mitigation options where required.
  • Provide clear reporting, insights and forecasts to support program governance and decision-making.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with Project Managers, technical leads and business stakeholders to obtain, validate and challenge planning inputs.
  • Facilitate discussions to resolve conflicts and maintain alignment across multiple workstreams.
  • Support governance forums with accurate and timely schedule information.

About You

You are a highly analytical and collaborative planning professional who enjoys working in complex project environments. You can confidently challenge assumptions, interpret competing priorities and build realistic schedules that support successful delivery outcomes.

You will bring:

  • Proven experience as a Project Scheduler, Planner or Program Scheduler within complex project environments.
  • Experience defining delivery approaches, sequencing activities and establishing realistic project plans.
  • Strong experience building and managing complex project schedules.
  • Advanced proficiency with scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project and Primavera P6.
  • Strong understanding of dependencies, critical path analysis, schedule optimisation and baseline control.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse schedule performance and provide meaningful recommendations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and facilitation skills.
  • Experience supporting large-scale technology, infrastructure or transformation programs.
  • Experience working within PMO or program governance frameworks.

Why INIT?

This is a rare opportunity to help build planning capability from the ground up within a long-term, high-profile public transport program. You'll work alongside experienced delivery professionals, influence key program decisions and play a pivotal role in ensuring successful outcomes for one of Australia's largest smart ticketing transformations. If you're passionate about turning complexity into achievable plans and enjoy partnering with stakeholders to drive delivery success.
