Electrical Design, Mechatronics & Automation
ICA | Epsom, Bendigo
Ever designed something, sent it off and never saw what happened next?
That’s not how it works at ICA.
We design and build complete conveyor, robotics and automation systems for major beverage, food, logistics and manufacturing companies. You can help design the system, see it come together in our Bendigo workshop, test it, commission it and watch it run in the real world.
We’ve got several major projects underway and years of work ahead. Now we’re looking for good people to grow our electrical design and automation team.
Who are we looking for?
We have opportunities across two areas:
Electrical and controls drafting/design
Mechatronics, electrical and automation engineering
You might be experienced, about to finish university, recently graduated or looking for a cadetship.
You don’t need to know everything on day one. We’ll teach you ICA’s systems and processes.
What matters is that you’re practical, switched on, accurate and good to work with.
Electrical & Controls Drafting/Design
This role works alongside our experienced electrical design team, turning project requirements into drawings and information our workshop can actually build from.
You could be working on:
- Electrical schematics and control-panel layouts
- PLC hardware layouts, cable schedules and bills of materials
- Shop-ready drawings for panel manufacture and installation
- Selection of PLCs, VSDs, sensors and machine-safety hardware
- Design queries from our workshop electricians
- Drawing updates following testing and commissioning
- ICA’s electrical design standards and processes
This could suit:
- An electrical or mechatronics graduate
- A local student interested in a drafting cadetship
- An industrial electrician or CAD operator ready to move into design
Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN or similar software would be a real advantage.
If you understand electrical engineering and can produce good drawings, we definitely want to hear from you.
Mechatronics, Electrical & Automation Engineering
This role works with our automation team across the design, programming, testing and commissioning of complete industrial systems.
Depending on your experience, you might be working on:
- PLC, HMI and SCADA programming
- Siemens S7/TIA Portal and Allen-Bradley systems
- Industrial networks, VSDs and servo systems
- Sensors, scanners and machine-safety systems
- Workshop testing and FAT
- Site installation, SAT and commissioning
- Fault-finding and getting equipment running properly
- Projects from early design through to final operation
Controls experience would be great, but we’re also open to graduates and developing engineers with good fundamentals, practical ability and the right attitude.
You’ll fit in here if you:
- Like solving real problems
- Want to see your work become working machinery
- Ask questions and learn quickly
- Take pride in accurate, usable work
- Enjoy working with engineers, designers and tradespeople
- Stay dependable when a project gets busy
- Bring ideas without pretending to know everything
- Want to build a proper technical career in Bendigo
We’re not chasing lone wolves or big egos.
We need team players who communicate, pitch in and help get the whole project over the line.
Why ICA?
- Big projects: Work on serious automation systems for major Australian businesses
- Real involvement: Follow projects from design through to workshop testing and commissioning
- Interesting technology: Conveyors, robotics, PLCs, controls, networks and machine safety
- Experienced people: Learn from engineers, designers, electricians and project specialists
- Room to grow: Genuine pathways for experienced people, graduates and cadets
- Long-term work: Several major projects underway and a strong pipeline ahead
- Bendigo-based: Build your career locally without the Melbourne commute
- Established business: ICA has been privately owned and operating since 1979
Where is the role?
You’ll be based at our facility in Epsom, Bendigo.
We want people who already live in the region or genuinely want to relocate here. You’ll need existing Australian working rights, as visa sponsorship isn’t available for these roles.
Already have a decent job?
That’s fine. You don’t have to be actively looking.
But if you’d like to work on bigger projects, get closer to the equipment and broaden your technical experience, this could be worth a conversation.
We’re interviewing now for people interested in joining us in the new year.
