About the role:
The systems and services you improve support important interactions for customers, providers, employers and employees across NSW. As Senior Security Services Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape a developing security technology function, taking ownership of complex security engineering from design through to implementation and ongoing improvement. You’ll work across cyber security, cloud, infrastructure and technology teams to strengthen enterprise security and resilience, while influencing decisions with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. It’s an opportunity to combine deep technical expertise with broader impact, explore emerging technologies including AI-enabled security capabilities, and mentor others as the team builds its capability.
What you'll be working on:
- Lead the design, integration and lifecycle management of enterprise security technologies across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Shape and deliver security controls that strengthen cyber resilience while supporting broader technology transformation.
- Explore, evaluate and pilot emerging security capabilities, including AI-enabled analytics, automation and cloud-native technologies.
- Lead complex security initiatives end to end, from technical assessment and design through implementation and operational adoption.
- Automate security processes using scripting, orchestration and infrastructure-as-code to improve effectiveness and response times.
- Partner with cyber, architecture, cloud, infrastructure, DevOps and business teams to embed security into technology solutions and manage competing priorities.
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues and security incidents, applying sound judgement to identify practical solutions.
- Share your expertise through technical guidance and mentoring, helping engineers and analysts build their capability.
What you'll bring:
- Significant experience in cyber security engineering or technical security roles in large or complex environments, with the depth to lead complex work independently.
- Hands-on experience designing, implementing and managing enterprise security technologies, such as SIEM, EDR/XDR, SOAR, firewalls, cloud security, network security, IAM and security monitoring.
- Experience delivering large-scale cyber security uplift, transformation or technology change, with the ability to take initiatives from concept through to implementation.
- Strong knowledge of cyber security principles, secure architecture, system hardening, incident response and technology risk across cloud and on-premises environments.
- An ability to learn new technologies quickly, solve complex technical problems and apply your expertise across different security domains.
- Confidence working across technical and business teams, explaining complex security issues clearly, influencing decisions and constructively challenging approaches when needed.
- An interest in emerging security technology and automation, with the curiosity to evaluate new approaches and translate them into practical improvements.
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cyber Security, Information Technology or a related field, and/or equivalent industry experience.
