Wintel Infrastructure Engineer in Canberra

Canberra Full-Time On-site
H

This agency focuses on national security and protects sensitive government systems. Its engineers also help other Commonwealth entities strengthen their security as cyber standards are reshaped and government investment in cyber capability continues to grow.

The Opportunity

These roles focus on strengthening the security of Windows-based enterprise environments across the Australian Government.

You’ll implement security controls, prototype configurations, and run design and remediation workshops at a time when the government’s baseline security framework is itself in transition. You’ll be allocated to a work area based on operational need, and the engagement starts in February 2027 for an initial 12 months, with extension options available.

  • Apply your security engineering skills to environments that matter at a whole-of-government level
  • Prototype security configurations that feed directly into the advice the agency provides
  • Facilitate design and remediation workshops, so your input shapes decisions rather than just executing them
  • Work through a changing cyber framework landscape as the Essential Eight evolves into a new Essentials series
  • Roles are available in both Canberra and Melbourne, with a 12-month initial term and extension options

The Role

As a Wintel Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll implement and prototype security controls that strengthen Windows-based enterprise systems.

  • Implement security controls to uplift security posture across the Australian Government
  • Develop standard operating procedures for security and administrative tasks
  • Facilitate and participate in workshops for design and remediation activities
  • Prototype security configurations to inform the development of advice

The Ideal Person

You’ve spent years working on the security side of enterprise systems, and you’re as comfortable scripting an automation as you are explaining a remediation plan in a workshop. You already hold an active NV2 or PV clearance and can start in February 2027.

You will bring the following skills and experience:

  • An active NV2 or PV security clearance (mandatory), and Australian citizenship
  • At least 5 years of technical cyber security experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with a security focus on enterprise systems
  • Experience implementing one or more of the Essential Eight mitigation strategies
  • Demonstrated experience with scripting or application development to automate system administration or vulnerability assessment tasks, or to build tools that help assess or remediate cyber risks

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated experience working with cloud systems such as Azure or AWS
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating and implementing remediation activities for the detection and mitigation of Active Directory compromises

Salary

  • $130/hr - $160/hr incl. Super
  • Labour hire contract: 12-month initial term, with extension options available
  • Based onsite in Canberra, ACT or Melbourne, VIC
