Our client is a well-established Australian Government organisation based in Canberra, operating under the Comcare scheme. Their wellbeing and rehabilitation function takes a genuinely preventative approach, working collaboratively across the organisation to stop harm at its source rather than simply managing it after the fact.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced rehabilitation professional to lead a small, capable team. This is a role where you will have real influence, providing advice to senior leaders and shaping wellbeing initiatives, while still keeping your hand in complex case management. If early intervention and good outcomes for people are what get you out of bed in the morning, this one is worth a look.
- Lead a small team of rehabilitation professionals in a collaborative, supportive environment
- Have a direct line of advice to managers and Senior Executive staff, so your expertise is heard where it counts
- Help shape wellbeing initiatives and strategies with a focus on prevention, not just response
- Work across both compensation and non-compensation case management for real variety
The Role
Reporting to senior management, you will lead rehabilitation case management and contribute to wellbeing initiatives across the organisation. You’ll be responsible for:
- Delivering leading practice rehabilitation case management (compensation and non-compensation) within employment and legislative frameworks
- Contributing to the development and rollout of tailored wellbeing initiatives, resources and strategies
- Liaising and collaborating with managers and staff at all levels to assess and resolve health-related matters
- Preparing sensitive and complex written material and presentations, including reports, briefs and policies
- Providing strategic advice to managers and Senior Executive staff
- Leading and developing a small team, including assurance processes
The Ideal Person
You are someone who builds trust and respect easily, and who brings sound judgement and resilience to the table when things get complex. You are comfortable working to tight timeframes, juggling competing priorities and adapting your approach as needed, all while keeping the person at the centre of the case. You will bring the following skills and experience:
- Significant technical expertise in complex case management, including within the Comcare scheme
- A thorough understanding of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including communicating and negotiating with senior leaders
- Experience preparing employer submissions for external review and appeal proceedings
- Experience managing teams, assurance processes and wellbeing initiatives, and contributing to broader people initiatives
- The ability to provide advice and deliver projects that meet best practice and legislative requirements
- High‑level written and verbal communication skills
- Sound judgement and risk management skills
