The Firm

Our client is an established and growing Sydney law firm with a strong plaintiff personal injury practice and a particular focus on achieving outcomes for injured workers. Based in Parramatta, the firm has an experienced personal injury team including Accredited Specialists and senior practitioners with significant experience across NSW compensation matters. The practice combines strong technical expertise with a genuinely client-focused approach. The team works closely together, provides structured mentoring and gives experienced paralegals meaningful responsibility for progressing matters rather than limiting them to purely administrative support.

The Role

The firm is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Personal Injury Paralegal to join its NSW Workers Compensation team. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who already understands the NSW workers compensation system and can confidently assist in the progression of a substantial caseload of statutory workers compensation matters. Working closely with experienced solicitors and an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law, you will be involved throughout the life of a claim, including disputed statutory benefits, permanent impairment claims and proceedings before the Personal Injury Commission.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the management and progression of NSW workers compensation files from initial instructions through to resolution;
  • Reviewing insurer dispute notices, work capacity decisions and supporting evidence;
  • Assisting with disputes involving weekly payments, medical and treatment expenses and other statutory entitlements;
  • Progressing permanent impairment claims;
  • Preparing applications and supporting material for proceedings in the Personal Injury Commission;
  • Preparing Independent Review Office funding applications;
  • Reviewing medical records, clinical material, employment evidence and liability documentation;
  • Preparing briefs and letters of instruction to treating practitioners, medico-legal experts and other experts;
  • Drafting statements, correspondence, submissions and supporting evidence;
  • Liaising with insurers, employers, medical practitioners and other stakeholders;
  • Obtaining detailed instructions from clients and keeping them informed throughout their claim;
  • Managing competing deadlines and ensuring matters progress efficiently in accordance with NSW workers compensation requirements.

This is a role where an experienced paralegal will be trusted to take real ownership of the day-to-day progression of files while working under the supervision of experienced personal injury lawyers.

About You

You will ideally have:

  • At least 3 years' experience in plaintiff personal injury law;
  • Strong experience specifically within NSW Workers Compensation;
  • A working understanding of the NSW statutory workers compensation scheme;
  • Experience dealing with s60, s66 and s78 disputes, work capacity decisions and permanent impairment claims;
  • Exposure to matters before the Personal Injury Commission;
  • Experience preparing or assisting with IRO funding applications;
  • Strong drafting and file management skills;
  • The ability to manage multiple matters and competing deadlines;
  • Confidence dealing directly with injured workers, insurers, medical practitioners and experts;
  • A practical, organised and proactive approach to progressing claims.

Most importantly, you will understand that plaintiff personal injury work requires both strong technical ability and the ability to deal sensitively and professionally with clients who are often navigating difficult circumstances.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

The firm offers:

  • Exposure to a broad range of NSW workers compensation disputes;
  • Direct mentoring from experienced personal injury practitioners and an Accredited Specialist;
  • Genuine responsibility and involvement in the progression of matters;
  • A well-established plaintiff personal injury practice;
  • Structured professional development and clear performance expectations;
  • Career progression for experienced paralegals;
  • Support for paralegals undertaking legal studies and progressing towards admission;
  • Study leave and ongoing professional development;
  • Competitive remuneration based on experience;
  • A supportive, collaborative team environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced workers compensation paralegal who wants to deepen their technical expertise, take greater ownership of their files and continue building a career within plaintiff personal injury law.
