About the company:
Our client is a specialist private practice located in Thornlands, QLD, focusing on speech pathology services related to learning and literacy. The clinic caters to a wide demographic including children, university students, and adults with learning-related conditions. Its strength lies in specialized, high-intensity interventions for literacy and language disorders, often addressing the intersection between learning difficulties and neurodevelopmental conditions like ADHD and ASD.
About the role:
Our client is looking for a Speech Pathologist to work primarily with clients who have conditions affecting learning, such as dyslexia, developmental language disorder (DLD), ADHD, and intellectual disability. The caseload includes children aged 5–18, university students, and adults, often working professionals. While the primary focus is on learning and literacy disorders, a small portion of the caseload includes more conventional paediatric speech work, such as articulation, phonology, and supporting clients with ASD in interpersonal or relational goals.
The role involves a range of responsibilities, including:
- Conducting assessments, interventions, and writing reports
- Providing evidence-based literacy therapies (e.g. synthetic phonics, narrative structure, paragraph construction)
- Delivering language-focused interventions (e.g. vocabulary building, spoken grammar and syntax, narrative programs)
- Occasionally working off-site (e.g. school visits) or via telehealth
- Being based at the Thornlands clinic with some flexibility in hours for the right candidate
Benefits:
- Specialised Caseload: Focus on learning and literacy disorders across a broad age range
- Therapeutic Depth: Private practice allows for intensive therapy and meaningful client progress
- Diverse Experience: Work with both children and adults in a niche area with few comparable clinics
- Flexibility: Some potential for flexible hours depending on the candidate
- Supportive Environment: Welcomes early-career and new graduate speech pathologists with interest in this specialty
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Speech Pathology
- Certifications: SPA Membership (Speech Pathology Australia), Blue Card (QLD – Paid Employee)
Ideal Candidate:
- Strong interest or experience in language and literacy skills
- Background in paediatric or school-aged caseloads, or education
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- High proficiency in reading and writing (critical for the literacy-focused caseload)
- Enthusiastic early-career SPs also encouraged to apply
