Record ECGs, fit ambulatory monitors and support stress echocardiography across our Heartscope clinics in Melbourne. Heartscope, part of Scope Healthcare, is one of Melbourne's largest cardiac diagnostic providers, with over 15 locations across the city.
We're looking for a Medical Technician to join our cardiology team. This is a hands-on, patient-facing role working alongside cardiologists, sonographers and clinic staff. You will help obtain accurate recordings and prepare patients for testing, working within your training and demonstrated competencies. Medical interpretation, diagnosis and treatment decisions remain with the reporting or treating doctor.
What you will do
- Perform ECGs. Confirm patient details, prepare the skin and position electrodes correctly, obtain a clear recording, check for technical artefact and submit the trace for medical reporting. Escalate patient symptoms or concerning findings promptly through clinic protocols.
- Fit Holter and ambulatory blood pressure monitors. Program and fit devices, check recording quality and explain how to use and return the equipment, including any symptom diary requirements. Download returned recordings and flag incomplete or poor-quality data for review.
- Support stress echocardiograms. Prepare patients, attach ECG electrodes and blood pressure cuffs, and assist the cardiologist and sonographer during testing as directed and within your assessed competencies. Follow clinic escalation and emergency procedures.
- Support patients. Explain procedures and equipment use, answer questions within your scope and help patients feel comfortable.
- Keep accurate records. Enter patient details and test data promptly in HealthTrack or other clinical systems, in line with privacy requirements.
- Look after supplies and equipment. Clean and disinfect equipment, perform routine checks according to clinic and manufacturer instructions, report faults and keep electrodes and consumables stocked.
- Support the sleep and respiratory team. Assist with patient preparation, home sleep study equipment set-up and downloads, and lung function testing as required, within your training and demonstrated competencies and under appropriate scientific supervision.
Requirements
- You're careful with detail and good at putting patients at ease, including people who are nervous about their tests. We're looking for:
- A background in nursing, medicine, science or a related health field. Recent graduates are welcome to apply.
- Clear communication with patients from a wide range of backgrounds and the ability to work collaboratively with clinical and administrative colleagues.
- Confidence with computers and accurate data entry, including Microsoft Office. Familiarity with healthcare software such as HealthTrack is desirable.
- A current driver's licence, as you may work across more than one clinic, and full working rights in Australia.
- A Working with Children Check and police check before you start.
- Experience in ECG recording, Holter or ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, stress test assistance or a cardiology or medical clinic will be highly regarded, as will a current CPR certificate. Please outline your existing skills and any areas where you would need further training.
Benefits
- You will have an opportunity to build your cardiac testing skills alongside experienced cardiologists and sonographers, with supported training and competency development.
- Develop towards broader technical, quality assurance or team support responsibilities as your skills grow, subject to relevant training, demonstrated competency and available opportunities.
- Work with the latest diagnostic technologies and tools in a supportive, patient-focused team.
- Be part of one of Melbourne's larger cardiology, sleep and respiratory groups.
- Access team member discounts and offers at a range of retailers, venues and services.
