HDR's Commissioning business is continuing to grow, supported by a strong portfolio of complex projects across Australia. We're looking for an experienced Commissioning Manager to play a key role in the delivery and continued growth of our Australian commissioning capability, with a primary focus on data centres and mission critical projects. This is a senior opportunity combining technical commissioning with project and client leadership. You'll lead complex projects, work closely with clients and support the development of our growing commissioning team. The position can be based in Melbourne or Brisbane.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Leading the delivery of complex commissioning projects and acting as an escalation point across projects led by others.
  • Acting as a key client contact and providing advice on commissioning strategies, scopes, programmes, performance requirements and testing.
  • Leading commissioning planning, documentation, contractor and vendor reviews, factory witness testing and project handover.
  • Overseeing Level 0-6 commissioning requirements, including Level 4 Functional Performance Testing and Level 5 Integrated Systems Testing.
  • Managing project programmes, resources, fee performance, forecasting and reporting.
  • Identifying new opportunities and contributing to tenders, positioning and business development.
  • Leading, mentoring and developing commissioning professionals.
  • Championing safety, quality and continuous improvement across commissioning activities.

What Makes This Role Different?

This is an opportunity to have an impact beyond individual project delivery. You'll work across some of Australia's most technically demanding projects while helping strengthen HDR's commissioning capability nationally. You'll have access to HDR's multidisciplinary teams and global commissioning expertise while building trusted relationships with clients and influencing how projects are delivered.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Demonstrated experience leading commissioning delivery on complex projects, ideally within data centre or mission critical environments.
  • Strong technical understanding of mechanical and electrical building services systems.
  • Experience leading and coordinating commissioning teams across complex project environments.
  • Experience conducting equipment inspections and Factory Witness / Factory Acceptance Tests (FWT/FAT).
  • Strong client and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commercial awareness and experience managing project priorities.
  • A collaborative approach with the ability to mentor and develop others.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary environments will be advantageous.
  • Professional accreditations such as Green Star AP, LEED AP, CSA or LEED Associate will be highly regarded.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Due to the nature of our project portfolio, Australian Citizenship will be advantageous but is not a mandatory requirement for this position.

Why Join HDR?

  • Employee ownership – be part of an employee-owned company and share in the success you help create.
  • Major project exposure – lead commissioning across complex mission critical projects.
  • Leadership opportunity – develop people, influence project delivery and contribute to the continued growth of our Australian commissioning capability.
  • Global TMT expertise – collaborate with HDR's internationally recognised mission critical and data centre teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (university or tafe).
  • Green Star AP, LEED AP, CSA or LEED Associate – highly advantageous.
