Job Description

Reporting to the Logistics & Contract Manager, the

Senior Contracts Advisor leads the sourcing, negotiation, formation and execution of purchase and services contracts for CSA Mine across maintenance, mining, civil works, logistics, capital equipment and consumables.

The role carries primary responsibility for allocating and controlling commercial and contractual risk at the point of contract formation — shaping terms, drafting and negotiating conditions, and securing value‑for‑money outcomes within agreed time and budgetary parameters.

This is a senior, hands‑on commercial role that owns the higher‑value, higher‑risk and more complex contracts in the CSA portfolio.

The Senior Contracts Advisor sets contracting standards and templates for the site, provides technical leadership and mentoring to Contract Advisors and Coordinators, and acts as the senior commercial conduit between site‑based teams and the broader Harmony Procurement and Supply Chain functions.

Roster

This role will be based in the Brisbane office located in Milton, working on Monday to Friday, with the option to WFH 2 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end contract formation — drive sourcing strategy, negotiation and execution of purchase and services contracts across maintenance, mining, civil works, logistics, capital equipment and consumables, ensuring agreements are commercially sound, risk-balanced and aligned to CSA operational requirements.
  • Negotiate commercial and contractual terms — lead negotiations on price, rates, indemnities, liability, warranties, insurances, IP and data use, service levels, security, variation and termination, securing balanced risk allocation in Harmony’s favour.
  • Draft and settle contract documentation — prepare, review and finalise contracts, schedules, special conditions and contractual correspondence, working with Legal where required to close drafting gaps and ambiguity before execution.
  • Own the most complex packages — take direct carriage of high-value, high-risk and strategically significant contracts, including design‑and‑construct, major equipment and multi‑year service agreements.
  • Set contracting standards — develop and maintain site contracting templates, playbooks, fallback positions and standard terms, lifting consistency and quality across the CSA contract portfolio.
  • Lead tender evaluation and award — chair or lead Tender Evaluation teams, assess supplier capability and capacity, and prepare and present Recommendations to Award for major sourcing events.
  • Provide technical leadership — mentor and guide Contract Advisors and Contract Coordinators, review their work on commercially significant matters, and build contract‑management capability across the site team.
  • Support contract owners — assist site‑based contract owners to prepare robust Scopes of Work and to manage variations, scope creep, disputes and performance issues on the contracts they hold.
  • Engage senior stakeholders — build and maintain strong working relationships with end‑users, Purchasing, Logistics, Inventory, Legal and key contractors, and represent CSA’s commercial position with confidence.
  • Act as commercial conduit — serve as a key link between the site‑based teams and the broader Harmony Procurement and Supply Chain teams on all procurement and contracting matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, commerce, engineering or supply chain (or equivalent relevant experience), with extensive contract‑management and negotiation experience in the civil, mining or heavy‑industry sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience leading the negotiation, drafting and execution of complex, high‑value commercial agreements end-to-end.
  • Sound working knowledge of contract law principles and commercial risk allocation (indemnities, liability, insurance, warranties, termination).
  • Sound knowledge of Pronto (or a similar ERP) and Microsoft products, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent stakeholder‑engagement, negotiation and influencing skills, with the credibility to represent the commercial position to senior internal and external parties.
  • Strong commercial acumen, sound judgement and a high standard of attention to detail.
  • Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to less‑experienced contract staff.
