The role
You'll be the go-to person on site for our carpentry team, reporting to our Construction Manager. It's a hands-on leadership role, so you'll be on the tools while keeping the crew organised and the job moving. Our projects are located within roughly a 70-80km of the Newcastle CBD.
Day to day you'll:
- Run the carpentry crew, allocate tasks and supervise apprentices and labourers
- Mentor and train our apprentices and pass on good trade practice
- Provide general management and leadership of the team and tasks on site
- Carry out carpentry from frame and truss installation through to lock-up, fit-off and general carpentry
- Renovation and alteration work, including in and around occupied homes
- Read and interpret plans, specs and engineering, and check work against them
- Coordinate with other trades so work flows in the right order
- Do quality checks before stage inspections and sort out defects quickly
- Check deliveries against orders and keep the Construction Manager updated on progress, materials and any variations
- Lead by example on safety, run toolbox talks and keep the site clean and secure
What you'll need
- Certificate III in Carpentry
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Current White Card
- Current driver's licence and your own reliable vehicle
- Your own tools
- Proven experience leading or supervising a carpentry crew
- A strong eye for detail and pride in your work
- The ability to deal professionally with clients, trades and suppliers
