We're looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Sports Turf team member to join our specialised Sports Turf team, working across high-profile Sydney sporting venues including Tramway Oval, Kippax Lake Fields and Heffron Park. This is an opportunity to build a career in sports turf while learning alongside experienced greenkeepers and turf professionals. You'll gain practical, hands-on experience maintaining playing surfaces used by AFL, NRL and Rugby teams, while working towards your sports turf qualification.
About the Role
As an Apprentice Sports Turf team member, you'll learn the skills needed to establish, maintain and prepare high-quality sporting surfaces. You'll work alongside experienced team members who will help develop your technical knowledge and practical skills. From mowing and line marking to turf renovations, irrigation and machinery operation, you'll get exposure to the different elements that go into creating great playing surfaces.
What You'll Be Learning and Doing
- Mowing and maintaining sports turf to a high standard
- Line marking and preparing fields for training and competition
- Aerating, topdressing and fertiliser applications
- Identifying and managing weeds and common turf health issues
- Seasonal turf renovations and recovery programs
- Irrigation and water management
- Safely operating and caring for turf machinery and equipment
- Maintaining clean, safe and well-presented sporting facilities
- Working across multiple sporting venues as part of a specialised Sports Turf team
About You
You don't need to be an experienced greenkeeper. We're looking for someone who's genuinely interested in building a career in sports turf and is ready to learn. You'll bring:
- A genuine interest in sports turf, greenkeeping or maintaining quality outdoor spaces
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn from experienced team members
- Reliability and the ability to work well as part of a team
- A willingness to work outdoors and undertake practical, hands-on work
- A commitment to safe work practices
- The ability to work across our sporting venues
Previous experience in turf, landscaping, horticulture, grounds maintenance or a similar hands-on environment would be helpful, but isn't essential.
