About the role

Are you a commercially minded accountant ready to take ownership of cost control and influence business performance? GeoDrill Australia is seeking a proactive Cost Accountant to strengthen financial controls, establish robust project-based budgets and provide meaningful financial insights to support operational decision-making. For the right candidate, this position offers a genuine pathway towards future opportunities within GeoDrill.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain project-based budgets in partnership with operational leaders, challenging assumptions and ensuring cost accuracy.
  • Monitor budgets against actuals, investigate variances and hold stakeholders accountable for financial performance.
  • Strengthen cost controls, purchase order processes and expenditure management.
  • Maintain the general ledger, complete month-end adjustments and deliver accurate, timely financial reporting.
  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing, leveraging AI-enabled tools while maintaining compliance with Australian payroll tax and superannuation requirements.
  • Support cash flow forecasting and supplier account management through proactive cost and expenditure analysis.
  • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, reporting and efficiency through AI and automation.
  • Partner with senior operational stakeholders to improve financial visibility, accountability and commercial decision-making.

About you

  • Experience in cost accounting, management accounting or a commercially focused finance role - particularly within mining or construction.
  • Demonstrated experience with job costing, project-based budgeting and variance analysis.
  • Strong general ledger and financial reporting capability, including month-end processes.
  • Practical payroll experience and knowledge of Australian payroll and superannuation requirements.
  • Experience in mining, drilling, construction, engineering or another project-based operational environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, commercial acumen and confidence working with senior operational leaders.
  • A proactive, hands‑on approach, with the confidence to ask difficult questions, challenge assumptions and drive accountability.
  • A relevant accounting qualification or equivalent experience is desirable, with CA/CPA qualifications viewed favourably.

The opportunity

This is an opportunity to make a tangible difference in a critical area of the business. You'll have direct access to senior leadership, genuine ownership of cost control and the opportunity to help shape the future of GeoDrill's finance function.
