The Department of Architecture is seeking a highly motivated Community Mapper to join a small local team working as part of a large, national project. This role can be full time or part time and will be fixed term until 31 March 2028.

Working flexibly from the Department, the Cambridge Room community space, remotely, as well as in collaboration with partners in community locations, this role will help deliver an exciting and intense participatory research project working with local communities to develop digital community-made maps of the region that will help foster sustainable behaviours. Our focus is on empowering children and young people to have a voice in planning. The role is open to those wishing to job-share.

The community mappers work in schools, leisure centres and events across Cambridgeshire helping children and young people create data for our community-made maps. While the focus is on working with children and young people, mapping workshops and other activities will be available to all age groups. The maps are digital, based on Open Street Map and uMap. Sometimes hand-made maps will be made with the data being transferred into digital formats.

There will be full training given in the mapping software and there may be opportunities to travel to Wales to work with other project teams there. This role will offer a variety of tasks and activities and would suit someone who enjoys creativity and learning.

This is a dynamic and fast-paced project and there is unlikely to be a typical day in the role. It would suit someone who enjoys creating order in a busy and creative environment, who is able to adapt quickly to changing situations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a pro-active approach will ensure that the diverse workload is enjoyable and fulfilling.

The post-holders will be working with children and young people and so an enhanced DBS check will be completed as part of the induction process and must be obtained.

Informal enquiries about the role are welcomed and should be directed to Matt Diston, Project Outreach Coordinator.

For questions on the application process, please contact the School's HR Team.

The closing date for applications is midnight (BST) on Sunday 23 August 2026. Interviews are planned for Tuesday 04 September 2026, subject to change.
