Flinders University is bringing its 2030 Sustainability Strategy to life through practical action across climate, biodiversity, resource efficiency, sustainable campus operations and community engagement. We are seeking a collaborative and proactive Sustainability Coordinator to help deliver a diverse range of projects and initiatives that embed sustainability across the University.

Based at Bedford Park, but working across our campuses, you'll connect with staff, students, academics and external partners to translate sustainability ambitions into meaningful outcomes. From engaging our community and supporting environmental initiatives to coordinating projects and improving everyday practices, this is a varied role where your contribution will make a tangible difference.

Reporting to the Head of Sustainability, you'll coordinate a diverse range of initiatives supporting Flinders University's 2030 Sustainability Strategy, working collaboratively across academic and professional areas. You’ll play an important role in connecting people, coordinating practical projects, communicating sustainability achievements and supporting the effective operation of the Sustainability team.

Your work will contribute to a wide range of projects and outcomes, including:

  • Deliver sustainability projects: Coordinate initiatives across climate action, biodiversity, resource recovery, sustainable food systems, water efficiency, active transport and sustainable procurement.
  • Engage and inspire our community: Deliver staff and student engagement programs, orientation activities, Sustainability Week, workshops, volunteering opportunities and behaviour change campaigns.
  • Communicate sustainability achievements: Develop newsletters, digital content, educational resources and communications that promote sustainability initiatives, research and positive outcomes.
  • Support climate resilience and biodiversity: Coordinate working groups, monitoring activities, stakeholder workshops and practical initiatives that enhance campus sustainability and climate adaptation.
  • Connect people and partnerships: Work with academic staff, students and external organisations to support sustainability-related teaching, research, experiential learning and community projects.
  • Support sustainability governance and operations: Coordinate meetings, project documentation, reporting and administrative activities, including procurement, budgets and records management.

You're a proactive, organised and collaborative sustainability professional who enjoys translating ideas into practical action and bringing people together to achieve positive outcomes. You have strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, an adaptable approach and the ability to coordinate multiple activities across a diverse organisation.

You will bring:

  • Experience coordinating sustainability, environmental or organisational improvement projects, including managing activities, budgets, timelines and deliverables.
  • A sound understanding of contemporary sustainability principles and practices, including climate action, biodiversity, resource efficiency and sustainable operations.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience coordinating communications, engagement activities, workshops, events or behaviour change initiatives.
  • Well-developed written communication skills, including preparing reports, project documentation, digital communications and educational resources.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and support procurement, financial and operational processes.
  • Experience implementing sustainability initiatives within a university, public sector or similarly complex organisation will be highly regarded.

The ideal candidate will hold a degree in sustainability, environmental management, environmental science, communications or a related discipline, together with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
