Location: Melbourne Western, South-Western and North-Western Suburbs, VIC

Employment Type: Full-time

Salary: $32–$38 per hour, depending on experience and skills

About Us

We are a growing gardening, grounds maintenance and property support business servicing residential properties and community care clients across Melbourne's western suburbs.

We provide professional gardening, lawn maintenance, landscaping, garden clean-ups, rubbish removal, decluttering and general property maintenance services.

A significant part of our work involves supporting elderly clients, people living with disabilities, and individuals receiving aged care or community support services.

We take pride in delivering reliable, high-quality services while treating every client and their property with care, dignity and respect.

We are looking for motivated, reliable and hardworking individuals who share our commitment to quality workmanship, professionalism and excellent customer service.

About the Role

As a Garden Maintenance & Property Support Team Member, you will work alongside other team members to maintain and improve residential gardens and outdoor spaces throughout Melbourne's western, south-western and north-western suburbs.

This is a hands-on, physically active role involving gardening, lawn mowing, landscaping, property maintenance, waste removal and occasional indoor or outdoor decluttering.

You will generally work as part of a team, with the expectation that you can also take initiative, identify tasks requiring attention and contribute to completing jobs efficiently.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, uses their time effectively, and understands that providing excellent service is just as important as completing the physical work.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Lawn mowing using push mowers, self-propelled mowers and ride-on mowers where required.

Lawn edging, whipper-snipping and trimming.

Hedge trimming, pruning and shaping trees, shrubs and plants.

General weeding, weed control and removal of unwanted vegetation.

Garden bed maintenance, soil preparation, mulching and fertilising.

Planting and maintaining flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns.

Application of herbicides, pesticides and fertilisers in accordance with safety requirements and product instructions.

Basic irrigation maintenance and minor repairs.

Clearing overgrown gardens and restoring neglected outdoor areas.

Seasonal garden clean-ups and general landscaping assistance.

Rubbish Removal, Decluttering & Property Support

Collecting and removing green waste, branches, leaves and general rubbish.

Sorting, loading, transporting and disposing of rubbish appropriately.

Removing unwanted items and assisting with property clean-ups.

Assisting with indoor and outdoor decluttering, sorting and organising items where required.

Keeping outdoor areas, pathways, gardens and common spaces tidy.

Handling clients' belongings carefully and following instructions regarding what is to be retained or disposed of.

Assisting with larger rubbish removal and property maintenance projects when required.

General Maintenance & Handyman Tasks

Sweeping, blowing and cleaning outdoor surfaces.

Pressure washing pathways, driveways and outdoor areas.

Basic property maintenance and minor handyman repairs within your skills and training.

Operating various hand tools, power tools and gardening equipment.

Identifying and reporting damaged equipment, property defects and maintenance concerns.

Equipment, Vehicles & Workplace Organisation

Safely operating and maintaining gardening tools and machinery.

Performing basic equipment inspections, cleaning and routine maintenance.

Loading, securing and transporting tools, equipment and waste.

Assisting with trailer loading, towing and reversing where appropriately licensed and competent.

Keeping company vehicles, trailers, tools and equipment clean, organised and in good working condition.

Reporting equipment faults, damage and safety concerns promptly.

Completing required job records, checklists and before-and-after photographs.

Taking reasonable care to prevent damage to client property.

Safety & Compliance

Following workplace health and safety procedures.

Using appropriate PPE, machinery and chemicals safely.

Identifying hazards and reporting incidents or near misses.

Maintaining safe working areas for clients, staff and members of the public.

Following correct manual handling and waste disposal procedures.

Working in accordance with company policies, procedures and client-specific instructions.

Protecting client confidentiality and privacy.

Client Care, Communication & Professional Conduct

This is an important part of the role.

Many of our clients are elderly, living with disabilities or receiving ongoing community support services. Our staff often become familiar and trusted faces in their weekly or fortnightly routines.

We therefore expect every team member to demonstrate professionalism, patience and respect when interacting with clients.

The successful candidate must be able to:

Communicate clearly, politely and respectfully with clients, carers, support coordinators and other team members.

Demonstrate patience, understanding and awareness when working around elderly or vulnerable individuals.

Respect clients' homes, belongings, personal circumstances, dignity and privacy.

Present themselves professionally and maintain appropriate workplace behaviour.

Listen carefully and follow instructions from the Team Leader and clients where appropriate.

Understand and maintain professional boundaries when working in clients' homes.

Report client concerns, incidents or requests for additional work to the Team Leader rather than making unauthorised commitments.

Work efficiently while maintaining quality, safety and care.

Contribute positively to the team and assist colleagues when required.

We value employees who are considerate, reliable and willing to go the extra mile to provide quality service.

What We're Looking For:

National Police Check (mandatory).

Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one.

Fluent spoken English and the ability to communicate clearly with clients and colleagues.

Australian citizenship or permanent residency.

Strong work ethic, reliability, honesty and punctuality.

Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team.

Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.

Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work safely.

Good time management skills and attention to detail.

Commitment to maintaining a professional appearance and behaviour.

Ability to work in varying outdoor weather conditions.

Respectful and patient attitude towards elderly clients and people living with disabilities.

Highly Regarded, but Not Essential

Previous experience in gardening, landscaping, grounds maintenance or a similar role.

Experience operating commercial lawnmowers, ride-on mowers, brushcutters, hedge trimmers and other gardening equipment.

Experience driving vehicles with trailers, including towing, parking and reversing.

Experience using power tools and performing basic handyman tasks.

White Card (Construction Induction Card).

Experience working around elderly clients, people with disabilities, aged care or NDIS participants.

Experience with irrigation, garden restoration, rubbish removal or property maintenance.

Mechanical aptitude or ability to undertake basic equipment maintenance.

Experience using mobile apps for job reporting, photographs and checklists.

Previous gardening experience is advantageous; however, training can be provided to the right candidate who demonstrates reliability, initiative, a willingness to learn and the right attitude.

The Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in people who:

  • Take initiative: Can recognise what needs to be done without having to be constantly reminded.
  • Work efficiently: Complete tasks productively without compromising quality.
  • Take pride in their work: Pay attention to detail and aim to leave every property looking its best.
  • Are dependable: Arrive on time, attend scheduled shifts and fulfil their responsibilities.
  • Are team players: Listen, communicate and support their colleagues.
  • Think practically: Can troubleshoot minor issues and find sensible solutions.
  • Respect clients: Understand the importance of patience, professionalism and customer care.
  • Are adaptable: Willing to assist with different gardening, property support and maintenance tasks as required.

We value the right attitude, good judgement and a willingness to learn just as much as technical experience.

What We Offer

Consistent work across Melbourne's western suburbs.

Supportive team environment.

On-the-job training and opportunities to develop practical skills.

Variety of work across gardening, property maintenance and community support services.

Opportunities to take on additional responsibilities as the business grows.

The satisfaction of helping clients maintain safe, enjoyable and well-presented homes and gardens.
