Duties/responsibilities:
- Laboratory Operations
- Oversee daily lab operations, resource allocation, and instrument performance.
- Monitor workflow and reassign tasks to meet turnaround times.
- Ensure equipment calibration and maintenance are completed on schedule.
- Adapt to changing priorities and perform additional duties as needed e.g. laboratory benchwork.
- People & Culture
- Lead team management processes.
- Conduct regular check‑ins and performance reviews.
- Create and maintain development plans for all team members.
- Mentor and coach staff.
- Maintain staffing levels and support a positive team culture.
- Client Management & Business Development
- Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Act as first contact for clients.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
- Provide client visit reports and maintain client insights.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with NATA, ISO, and internal QMS requirements.
- Support method improvements and audit readiness.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements.
- Encourage team ideas for workflow optimisation.
- Support evaluation and validation of new methods and technologies.
Skills/experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or similar discipline.
- Must have prior experience in lab operations of a NATA accredited laboratory environment and a strong technical background.
- Experience in an environmental laboratory is highly ideal.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Teamwork skills and ability to mentor junior staff.
