About Us
Evolution Fabrication is a growing steel and aluminium fabrication business based in the Illawarra, specializing in structural steel, architectural metalwork, aluminium fabrication and onsite installation.
We work across commercial, industrial and residential projects, delivering quality fabrication and installation services to builders, developers and private clients.
As our business continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced and motivated Operations Manager to take ownership of our day-to-day operations, lead our workshop team and help drive the business forward.
About the Role
This is a key leadership position working directly alongside the Company Director.
You'll be responsible for overseeing daily workshop operations, managing employees, coordinating production schedules, organizing materials and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, safely and to a high standard.
We're looking for someone who takes initiative, leads by example and has the confidence to make decisions and solve problems independently.
This is not purely an office-based management position. We need someone who enjoys being involved in the workshop, understands fabrication processes and is comfortable getting their hands dirty.
While the primary focus is managing operations, you'll also be expected to assist with material handling, workshop organization and hands-on tasks when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of our fabrication workshop.
- Lead, supervise and coordinate workshop employees and onsite personnel.
- Plan and manage fabrication schedules to meet project deadlines.
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor employee productivity and performance.
- Coordinate material procurement, deliveries and stock requirements.
- Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, drafting teams and clients as required.
- Coordinate external services, including galvanizing, powder coating, transport and site installations.
- Review fabrication drawings and ensure work is completed to specifications.
- Maintain quality control throughout fabrication and prior to dispatch.
- Monitor project labour hours, material usage and production efficiency.
- Identify potential delays, production issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain a safe, organized and productive working environment.
- Provide regular project progress updates to the Company Director.
About You
We're looking for a practical, organized and experienced leader who understands the demands of running a busy fabrication workshop.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in workshop management, production management or operations management within the steel or metal fabrication industry.
- A strong background in steel fabrication, welding or a related trade.
- The ability to read and interpret structural steel and fabrication drawings.
- Proven experience supervising tradespeople and coordinating multiple projects.
- Strong organizational, planning and problem-solving skills.
- A good understanding of fabrication processes, material procurement and quality control.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead a team effectively.
- A proactive attitude and the confidence to take ownership of daily operations.
- A strong commitment to workplace safety, accountability and workmanship.
- Experience in structural steel fabrication and onsite installation coordination will be highly regarded.
What We Offer
- A full-time, long-term position with a growing fabrication business.
- Competitive remuneration based on experience and capability.
- The opportunity to work directly with the Company Director and play an important role in the business.
- Genuine autonomy and responsibility over day-to-day operations.
- A diverse range of structural steel, aluminium and architectural fabrication projects.
- The opportunity to develop and improve workshop systems, processes and team performance.
- A supportive, practical working environment where initiative and leadership are valued.
The Opportunity
We're not looking for someone who simply wants a management title.
We're looking for someone who wants to take ownership, build a strong team, improve how the workshop operates and become an integral part of Evolution Fabrication's future.
The right person will have the opportunity to make a real impact on the business and grow with us.
