The Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) is Western Australia’s independent regulator of electricity, gas, water and rail. Our purpose is to benefit all Western Australians by promoting strong economic outcomes through effective regulation and decision making. Our work is challenging, complex and sensitive; we strive to make sure current and future consumers pay no more than necessary for safe and reliable utilities.

The ERA has a strong workplace culture of innovation, working with integrity, striving for excellence, and capability building. Our people are from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds, intelligent, passionate and committed, and provide a supportive, collaborative, and collegiate team operating environment. We offer genuine workplace flexibility around further study, school hours or caring responsibilities.

What is the Role?

We are seeking a passionate professional to join us on a permanent basis as the Assistant Director Electricity within the Regulation division.

The position provides strategic leadership across the ERA’s electricity regulatory functions, with a particular focus on third party access to electricity infrastructure. The role provides high level advice on complex regulatory matters, leads major regulatory projects and decision making processes, manages stakeholder relationships and consultation, and oversees the preparation of key regulatory documents.

The position also leads and develops staff, manages resources and strategic risks, and represents the ERA with industry, government and other key stakeholders. This opportunity comes at a key time as Western Power prepares to submit its AA6 proposal in February followed by the ERA’s consideration of and decision on this proposal.

To be successful in this role you’ll bring strategic thinking, collaborative leadership and a talent for solving complex problems. You’ll communicate clearly, build constructive relationships and negotiate effectively to resolve differences. You’ll also help others develop and manage people and budgets to deliver results.
