Emergent Learning Pty Ltd β Sydney CBD NSW
We are seeking a Learning Designer with additional demonstrable experience analysing qualitative and quantitative data.
You will use research findings to design engaging, evidence-informed learning solutions.
You will investigate learner and stakeholder needs, interpret research findings, work with subject matter experts, and design and produce learning and multimedia resources that facilitate change within people and organisations.
Your background in research is important in this role: you will use evidence to identify learning and performance needs, guide design decisions and evaluate outcomes.
Working with clients, subject matter experts and our team, you will take projects from discovery through storyboarding, multimedia production and evaluation within agreed budgets and timelines.
Key responsibilities
- Collaborate with clients to identify goals, learning gaps, design requirements, practical considerations and measures of success.
- Conduct research projects, including stakeholder interviews and surveys, and analyse findings to identify learning needs, barriers and audience communication requirements.
- Translate complex research and technical information into accurate, plain-language content for professional and workplace audiences.
- Apply evidence-based learning design approaches, including our EMERGE model, to develop learning objectives, sequenced content, practical activities and assessments.
- Develop design concepts, storyboards and prototypes that organise content and show how a learning resource will look and function.
- Create diagrams, infographics, illustrations and visual layouts to communicate concepts and support understanding.
- Produce and integrate interactive e Learning, graphics, video and audio using digital authoring and production tools.
- Present designs to clients and colleagues, explain recommendations, resolve feedback and agree on design solutions to meet project requirements.
- Evaluate learning outcomes using assessment results, learner feedback and other relevant data to improve learning resources.
- Coordinate assigned work, manage feedback and revisions, and deliver resources within agreed scope and deadlines.
- Document agreed designs, storyboards, media requirements and revisions to guide development and review.
Essential skills and experience
- At least two years of relevant experience in learning design or knowledge translation roles involving the design and production of learning or multimedia resources.
- A demonstrated research background, including published articles, experience conducting literature reviews, interviews, surveys, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.
- Ability to critically assess research findings and use them to identify learner needs and implications for design.
- Experience translating research or complex technical information into clear, plain-language educational resources.
- Ability to turn learning requirements into clear objectives, logically sequenced content, practical activities and assessments aligned with intended outcomes.
- Experience developing multimedia concepts, prototypes or visual layouts, with an understanding of how content, media and interactivity support the intended audience.
- Ability to explain design choices, incorporate stakeholder feedback and document agreed designs and revisions.
- Proficiency in an e Learning authoring tool such as Articulate Rise or Storyline, and in visual, video or audio production tools such as Canva, Adobe software, Power Point and Descript.
- Strong stakeholder communication, collaboration and project organisation skills, including managing reviews and meeting deadlines.
Desirable qualifications and experience
- A degree in instructional design, psychology or a related discipline.
- Professional development in learning design, knowledge mobilisation or human-centred design.
- Experience with research analysis tools such as NVivo, SPSS, R or Q.
- Experience in usability testing, learning evaluation or co-design with stakeholders.
- A portfolio demonstrating your contribution to research-informed design and multimedia production.
