Community Recreation Coordinator in Brisbane

Brisbane Full-Time On-site
E

Role Description

This is an outdoors role first and foremost.

If you’re most at home on a trail, a ropes course or an outdoor program site, and you want to use that experience to strengthen communities, this is for you.

As Community Recreation Coordinator, you’ll lead outdoor recreation projects for community members and organisations across Mt Atkinson and Beveridge. You’ll learn about local needs and service gaps, then design and deliver projects that make the most of our outdoor venues and partnerships. Creative arts, food, culture, gardens and sport will be part of the mix, but outdoor recreation is the foundation.

This is a hands-on role. You’ll be on site, running projects, looking after our venues and travelling offsite to deliver projects at our Beveridge venues and in regional areas.

This is a two-year fixed term, full-time contract (38 hours per week) and is a Level 4 graded Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHADS) position.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and lead outdoor recreation programs that respond to community-identified needs
  • Deliver activities on our mountain bike trails, high ropes course and other outdoor sites
  • Manage risk through documented risk assessments and safe, welcoming, relationship-based programming
  • Supervise volunteers and university students on placement

Site and venue care

  • Maintain the Truganina high ropes course, following industry standards, required inspections and relevant policies
  • Use power tools to build structures and obstacles for site activities
  • Keep our trails and venues safe and well maintained, assist with minor repairs and cleaning, and report maintenance issues to management

Community engagement and partnerships

  • Work with the Community Development Coordinator to understand local needs, service gaps and potential partnerships
  • Build relationships with local government, community organisations, funding bodies and residents
  • Support grant applications with program information, needs analysis and evidence

Project coordination

  • Design and deliver within approved budgets, with clear objectives, outcomes and indicators
  • Collect project data, submit quarterly reports and identify stories of impact with our Communications and Marketing team

Qualifications

  • Practical experience using outdoor activity as a vehicle for community development
  • Strong project design, monitoring and evaluation skills, including developing objectives, outcomes and indicators, and reporting against them
  • A tertiary qualification (or currently studying) in Recreation, Outdoor Education, Social Work, Community Development, Teaching or a related field, or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within the recreation sector
  • Comfort with practical, physical work, including using power tools and maintaining outdoor facilities
  • Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work respectfully with diverse communities and age groups
  • Your own vehicle to travel between project sites
  • A first aid certificate (can be obtained after appointment)
  • Experience with mountain biking, high ropes or similar outdoor facilities
