The Role
Reporting to the Vineyard Manager, you'll lead the day‐to‐day operations of your assigned vineyards – from potential plantings right through to harvest. This is a hands‐on, field‐based role where you'll be out among the vines, leading your team to get the job done to a high standard, safely and in line with compliance requirements, while keeping our irrigation systems flowing smoothly.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own the vineyard calendar, planning, organising and completing all operational activities for your assigned vineyards from potential plantings through to harvest;
- Plan, implement and monitor vineyard operations using the Ezy Wine Vineyard Management system, working alongside the Vineyard Manager, Chief Viticulturist and General Manager;
- Keep the water flowing by carrying out timely irrigation maintenance and repairs to maintain peak system performance;
- Train and support new employees and contractors in the safe use of plant and equipment and in vineyard operational tasks, keeping accurate training records;
- Kick off each day by running the safety toolbox meeting, sharing relevant safety and operational information with the team;
- Supervise quality assurance and operational tasks, ensuring records are kept up to date;
- Maintain and repair plant and equipment (or source specialised repair agents), ensuring pre/post operational checks are completed and maintenance records are kept;
- Raise purchase orders in Ezy Wine in line with the Purchasing Procedure;
- Bring fresh ideas to the table, identifying opportunities to drive savings and efficiencies across vineyard operations; and
- Carry out all work with Duxton Vineyards' environmental and sustainability commitments front of mind, ensuring compliance with relevant environmental laws and obligations.
What You'll Bring
- Qualification in Operational Management or 5+ years' experience in a related field;
- Proven hands‐on experience as a Supervisor, with a knack for bringing out the best in your team;
- Experience and knowledge in heavy vehicle/vineyard machinery and large‐scale operations;
- Strong safety awareness and sound knowledge of operational management;
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team; and
- Flexible, adaptable and reliable – because in a vineyard, no two days are ever the same!
