We are looking for someone who enjoys working with others, takes pride in their work and wants to contribute to the firm's long-term success. A willingness to support colleagues, take on different tasks and help where needed is just as important to us as technical ability.
About the role
You will work alongside our accountants and partners, assisting with accounting, taxation and business services for a range of clients. You will have the opportunity to build your knowledge, take on increasing responsibility and develop your career in public practice.
Your duties will include:
- Assisting with the preparation of financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals.
- Preparing business activity statements and instalment activity statements.
- Completing bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations and supporting workpapers.
- Assisting with bookkeeping, transaction coding and general ledger reviews in Xero and other accounting software.
- Assisting with payroll processing and related reconciliations where required.
- Assisting with management reporting, including budgets, cash flow forecasts and analysis of business performance.
- Supporting partners and senior accountants with business advisory projects and other client assignments.
- Following up clients for information and helping respond to routine queries.
- Supporting senior accountants with year-end accounts, tax planning and other client work.
- Maintaining accurate client records, job information and timesheets in Xero Practice Manager.
- Helping the team meet deadlines and keep client work progressing.
- Assisting with general administrative and practice tasks as needed.
Work will be allocated according to your experience, with guidance and review from senior team members.
About you
You will bring:
- A minimum of one year's experience in public practice accounting.
- An intention to commence CA or CPA studies, or studies already underway.
- Practical experience using Xero and a working knowledge of Xero Practice Manager (XPM).
- A sound foundation in accounting, attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
- Good communication skills and a professional approach to clients and colleagues.
- The ability to manage competing tasks, follow instructions and ask questions when needed.
- A reliable, cooperative attitude and a willingness to support the team across a range of responsibilities.
This position suits someone for whom our Clayton office is a practical location for regular attendance and who is looking to build a lasting career with the firm.
The right fit
We value people who take ownership of their work, follow through on commitments and recognise when a colleague needs a hand. We are looking for someone who is happy to contribute wherever needed, welcomes feedback and understands that delivering good client service is a team effort. This is an experienced junior position, rather than an entry-level graduate role. Applicants without at least one year's public practice experience will not be considered.
