About us

Disability Driving Centre (DDC) is a specialist vehicle modification workshop in Chatswood, part of the Total Ability group. We fit adaptive driving controls and vehicle modifications that help people with disability drive and travel independently. We work with clients, their families and occupational therapists, and with an installer network across Australia.

About the role

If you like working out how to make something fit and work when there's no manual for it, this is your kind of workshop. Every vehicle, client and fit-out is different. You'll start by supporting our experienced installers and build up to fitting adaptive driving controls yourself.

While our team grows, you'll also help at the front counter: answering phones, greeting customers and handling vehicle drop-offs.

What you'll do

  • Assist with installs, including fit-out, wiring and fabrication, taking on more as your skills grow
  • Assemble and set up product kits ready for installation
  • Prepare client vehicles, including receiving, cleaning and moving them on site
  • Receive parts, look after workshop stock, and pick, pack and dispatch spare parts
  • Keep the workshop clean, organised and safe
  • Help work out solutions to non-standard problems on each vehicle
  • Cover the front counter when needed: phones, walk-ins, bookings and handovers

About you

  • A genuine problem solver who enjoys jobs with no standard procedure. This matters more to us than certificates.
  • Hands-on experience in, or a strong interest in, automotive, auto-electrical, mechanical or fabrication work
  • Patient and friendly with customers, in person and on the phone
  • A current driver's licence (essential)
  • Looking for a long-term career and keen to learn

Nice to have

  • Auto-electrical or 12V wiring experience
  • Vehicle modification, 4WD or caravan fit-out, or mobility equipment experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Disability sector experience; lived experience of disability is welcomed

Apprentices

  • Reasonable adjustments are available during recruitment and in the role
