We are looking for an experienced and motivated Afternoon Shift 2IC (Second in Charge) to join our warehouse team.
This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to someone who enjoys working alongside their team, leading by example and supporting the Shift Supervisor in keeping daily operations running safely and efficiently.
About the Role
Working closely with the Afternoon Shift Supervisor, you will assist with coordinating warehouse operations, supporting and mentoring staff, maintaining safety standards and ensuring orders are completed accurately and on time.
You will be actively involved in day-to-day warehouse duties while helping provide direction and support to the team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Shift Supervisor with daily warehouse operations and workflow.
- Leading by example and assisting with the training, mentoring and development of staff.
- Promoting safe work practices and ensuring WHS procedures are followed.
- Picking, packing and preparing steel orders for dispatch.
- Operating overhead cranes and forklifts to safely move and load steel products.
- Loading and unloading trucks and assisting with deliveries and dispatch.
- Assisting with steel cutting and saw operations where required.
- Monitoring job progress, prioritising tasks and communicating with supervisors to meet deadlines.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe warehouse environment.
- Assisting with supervising the shift when required.
About You
We are looking for someone who is reliable, safety-focused and confident working in a busy warehouse environment.
To be successful, you will ideally have:
- Previous warehouse, storeperson or steel industry experience.
- A current forklift licence.
- A current truck licence (highly regarded).
- Experience operating overhead cranes.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- The ability to guide, motivate and support other team members.
- A proactive approach to workplace safety and productivity.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads.
- A willingness to get involved and work alongside the team.
Highly regarded:
- Previous experience in the steel industry or steel distribution.
- Experience operating steel cutting saws or processing equipment.
- Previous experience as a 2IC, team leader or supervisor.
- Experience loading and unloading steel trucks.
Previous leadership experience is an advantage, but we are also happy to consider an experienced warehouse operator who is ready to take the next step into a leadership role.
