Catholic Diocese of Lismore

Lismore NSW

Full time, permanent

Shape the long-term financial future of a diocese serving communities from Tweed Heads to Port Macquarie

Capstone is pleased to be partnering with the Catholic Diocese of Lismore on the appointment of the Investment Manager, Property & Multi-Assets. You will lead the investment strategy of the Diocesan Prudential Fund, a rare opportunity to combine strategic property expertise with multi-asset investment leadership, in a role where the returns you deliver go straight back into building faith communities and supporting people in need.

The organisation

The Diocese of Lismore stretches more than 460 kilometres along the NSW east coast. It supports parishes, schools, aged and community care services, health and a wide range of ministries. The Diocesan Prudential Fund is the Diocese's property and investment vehicle. Its substantial portfolio includes commercial and retail assets, strategic landholdings across the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast, residential investment property and development sites.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Diocesan Business Manager, you will recommend and implement the Fund's investment strategy. The current and potential development pipeline is significant. It includes mixed-use developments, land subdivisions, retirement living and aged care opportunities, healthcare, community and more. There is also an income producing property investment portfolio across office, retail, residential and alternative assets, as well as a substantial share portfolio.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Advising and reporting to the Diocesan Prudential Fund Committee on performance, market trends and strategy
  • Leading a full review of the property portfolio, covering utilisation, performance, cost and strategic alignment
  • Delivering the significant current development pipeline with support from external partners and service providers
  • Sourcing acquisitions, building a forward pipeline and recommending investment, development or divestment
  • Leading negotiations and managing due diligence across planning, environmental, engineering, legal and commercial matters
  • Stress-testing portfolios, monitoring liquidity and advising on rebalancing to optimise risk-adjusted returns
  • Partnering with parishes and diocesan agencies to help them develop their own investment plans

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Property, Business, Commerce, Planning, Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in land acquisition, property development, development management or large-scale capital works
  • Understanding of financing structures, capital and equities markets, and credit fundamentals
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical capability, with excellent negotiation and influencing skills
  • Proven leadership, with exceptional stakeholder engagement and the ability to write and present complex advice clearly
  • Alignment with the values of the Catholic Church

A valid driver's licence and the ability to travel across the region are required.

Location and relocation

This role is based on site at the Chancery in Lismore. It offers the opportunity to live in Lismore or the surrounding region, including the commutable towns of Casino, Ballina, Evans Head and Byron Bay.

Relocation support is available for the successful candidate.
