Architecture Media is the leading media business serving Australia's architecture, design and built-environment community.

Its portfolio spans print and digital publishing, industry platforms, awards and events, built on a reputation for trusted information, incisive commentary and meaningful connections.

Wholly owned by the Australian Institute of Architects but operated independently, Architecture Media is entering an important phase of growth.

Its current strategy is built around three pillars - profit, community and culture - as the business diversifies beyond traditional publishing and advertising towards a more digital, data-driven model, while protecting the quality and independence its brands are known for.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Board through the Chair, the Chief Executive Officer will lead Architecture Media's strategy, people, operations and performance.

This is a rare opportunity to shape how Australia's architecture and design profession is informed, connected and represented, while building a commercially sustainable media business for the future.

The immediate mandate is to lead the organisation's sustainable growth - building from trusted brands, specialist content, loyal communities and an established team, while closing commercial and capability gaps.

The role calls for a leader who can set direction and make disciplined choices, while remaining close to delivery in a relatively small organisation.

Key responsibilities include

  • Delivering sustainable profitability, stronger operating cash flow and an appropriate return on investment.
  • Growing and diversifying revenue beyond traditional print advertising, into digital products, events, subscriptions, partnerships and other scalable offers.
  • Leading audience development, first-party data and analytics capability so that audience value and advertiser outcomes can be demonstrated.
  • Accelerating fit-for-purpose digital evolution, including the effective use of AI and automation.
  • Maintaining content excellence, editorial independence and the trust attached to Architecture Media's brands.
  • Building an accountable, adaptable and commercially oriented leadership culture.
  • Strengthening governance, risk management, cyber resilience and operational discipline.

About You

You are commercially astute, strategically clear and operationally grounded, with the ability to make choices under constraint and engage credibly with editorial and creative professionals.

You bring

  • Leadership in a media environment
  • Integrity, sound judgement and respect for editorial independence.
  • A growth orientation grounded in financial discipline and evidence.
  • An inclusive, direct and accountable leadership style.
  • Curiosity about audiences, technology and changing media models.
  • Confidence working with a Board and navigating complex stakeholder relationships.
  • An appreciation of design quality and comfort working with creative and editorial professionals.
