Fumigation Technician (DAFF Fumigator) – Brisbane

Fumigation Technician (DAFF Fumigator) – Brisbane

Brisbane Full-Time On-site
D

We are seeking an experienced DAFF fumigator based at our Depth Defence Logistics Centre at Pinkenba, Brisbane.

While this role is based in Brisbane, the successful applicant will travel to carry out DAFF treatments at other Queensland ports and in Darwin, so domestic travel, mostly by air, is part of the role.

We primarily serve defence and government supply chains, which sometimes require urgent responses in support of their work to keep Australia secure. We also have a growing number of civilian clients and provide all normal freight services for import and export cargo by air or sea.

Our DAFF biosecurity capabilities include DAFF washing, container tailgates and all approved treatments. We have our own DAFF Approved Arrangements (AAs) and off-port fumigation pads in Brisbane and Darwin, and are approved to work in other Queensland ports.

Our business is growing fast, so we are hiring an experienced DAFF fumigator who will be responsible for fumigating import and export cargo that comes through our terminals. We will also train you in other DAFF biosecurity treatments and inspections.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide fumigation services for import and export commodities and shipping containers at Queensland and Northern Territory ports and our DAFF AAs. Extensive domestic travel is required.
  • Determine the type and method of fumigation by following DAFF directions
  • Apply fumigants and monitor continuously to prevent unauthorised access and maintain safe conditions
  • Use hand-held gas monitoring equipment to take readings
  • Follow all safety guidelines
  • Ensure equipment and PPE are cleaned, decontaminated and stored according to company requirements
  • Continually improve your knowledge of the fumigation and pest control industries
  • Occasional weekend work is required

The ideal candidate will have

  • A licence to use DAFF-mandated treatments in Queensland and the Northern Territory. If you are not approved for the NT, Queensland credentials are usually accepted by NT authorities.
  • The ability to read and interpret directions and safety instructions, including equipment manuals, chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Excellent communication, attention to detail and time management skills
  • A current driver’s licence
  • A forklift or reach stacker licence (desirable but not essential)
  • An MSIC card and/or a police background check

You’ll work alongside a great team.

Applications from Australian Defence Force veterans are highly regarded but not essential. All applicants must be able to obtain an Australian Department of Defence security clearance if required.

No recruiters, please.
