Support the day-to-day case management of young people in the community subject to bail. Deliver meaningful afterhours support to young people by doing practical and pro-social activities. See progress through small shifts that matter deeply to young people.
As a youth justice case officer in the Enhanced Bail Supervision and Support service (EBSS), you will provide case support to young people subject to enhanced supervision and monitoring including home visits and help guide them through complex moments in their lives as they work towards completing their court order. You will work directly with young people as well as their families and various community supports to promote rehabilitation and work on building their life skills to set them on the right path.
You will:
- Deliver support, including after hours support to young people, such as transport to school, work, appointments, and pro-social leisure/recreational activities.
- Provide technical expertise in electronic monitoring to support suitability assessments.
- Installation, removal, troubleshooting and maintenance of electronic monitoring devices for young people subject to EBSS.
- Work closely with families, courts and services to support accountability and rehabilitation.
- Manage competing priorities in a role where adaptability matters more than perfection.
This work is demanding and emotionally complex. If one task is done, there will always be something new to do. You will see progress in the young people you work with but change is often gradual rather than dramatic. However, watching the accumulation of small shifts that build over time will inspire you to continue your vital work. You will not be doing this alone. You will work in a team who genuinely love the work they are doing and where support is built into the job. Regular supervision and debriefing will help you balance your priorities and be ready with whatever the day brings you.
Work hours and locations: This role is a rostered position, and Case Officers work on a rotating roster to provide you with flexibility in your week. The hours of operation Monday to Friday is 6am β 9pm and there are two shifts (morning and afternoon) within these times. Operational hours on weekends are 9am β 9pm and you will be required to work weekends. These positions are primarily based in either Sunshine (North West Metro Area) and Dandenong (South East Metro Area) and you will work flexibly across different locations within these regions, to support young people and their families.
Successful applicants will be provided with all necessary training to support performance of the role.
About you: If you can use organisation and communication skills to guide real change in young people and are looking for a hands-on role, this role is for you. A relevant qualification in social work, youth work, psychology, human services, criminology or criminal justice is desirable. You will also need a full driver's licence and maintain a current Working with Children Check.
You should also have:
- The ability to establish rapport with young people regardless of their age, gender, developmental stage or cultural background.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing and interacting with stakeholders.
- The ability to be flexible and responsive to changes in priorities.
- The capacity to stay calm, regulate yourself and keep working after difficult conversations.
- An openness to supervision and feedback in a role where learning never stops.
- Prior experience working with young people in similar fields is highly desirable.
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (Aboriginal) people are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include national police checks and misconduct screening.
