Are you ready to lead a team of school psychologists? The Department of Education is the biggest employer of psychologists in Western Australia, with lead school psychologists providing the professional leadership of school psychologists in schools, education regions and in specialised settings under the auspices of Statewide Services. We are establishing a register of eligible and highly motivated individuals to fill lead school psychologist vacancies in WA public schools across the state. The register will be used to fill fixed term, full time and part time vacancies up to 12 months in duration. If you are currently a fixed-term or permanent school psychologist or lead school psychologist, and are looking for your next opportunity, or you are a recently retired lead school psychologist, you are encouraged to apply. If you’ve recently moved to WA and have experience in school psychologist leadership, we’d love to hear from you. As a lead school psychologist, you will be directly accountable to the region’s Director of Education. You will also be professionally accountable to the Department’s Chief Psychologist. Your practice will be guided and directed by Departmental policies and guidelines and the Psychology Board of Australia’s professional standards. Lead school psychologists are also employed with Statewide Services. You will provide leadership and access to professional support and learning for all school psychologists, including ensuring professional supervision for provisionally registered psychologists and assure the quality of practice meets the professional standards of the Department and the Psychology Board of Australia. As a lead school psychologist, you will provide direct advice to the Director of Education and principals in the assessment and response to complex issues and/or situations, including incident management. You will also provide leadership in the development and implementation of appropriate programs, interventions and evaluations at all levels, including facilitation of systemic change and provide critical evaluation on issues impacting on the School Psychology Service. Appointments from the Register Directors of Education may consider applicants from the register to fill short term lead school psychologist vacancies up to twelve months in duration. Qualifications, experience and location availability will be considered when selecting an applicant for possible placement. You may be contacted by a Director of Education to discuss the possibility of a placement or to discuss future opportunities. Your referees may be contacted to verify your experience. If you are a permanent employee with the Department your current line manager will need to approve your release before you can accept a fixed-term placement in another region. Appointment to this register does not guarantee employment.

Who should apply?

  • currently employed and are looking for acting opportunities
  • looking to return to the Department to a short-term placement
  • looking to start a career as a school psychologist leader in Western Australia
