The School At John Curtin College of the Arts (JCCA), we nurture students' creative potential, fostering critical thinking and purposeful growth. Guided by our values of Curiosity, Courage and Connection, our inclusive and culturally responsive community empowers students to transform their passions into meaningful change. JCCA is home to 1800 students across Years 7 to 12. We believe every student is an individual with unique strengths and learning needs, and our programs reflect this.
Through our Gifted and Talented Secondary Selective Entrance Arts Programs in Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, Music Theatre and Visual Arts, our Academic Excellence Program, and our Specialist Football Program, we offer learning experiences that motivate, challenge, and extend students academically, artistically, socially, and emotionally. The Arts persist by illuminating shared experiences, challenging perspectives, and inspiring us to envision a better world. At JCCA, the Arts are not a strand of education β they are woven through every aspect of college life. Our environment nurtures artistic passion alongside academic rigour, where students find community and purpose, and where creativity is the engine of both personal and intellectual growth.
JCCA is ideally seeking passionate and highly skilled Drama teachers who display a commitment to excellence in learning and teaching and a strong capacity to support exceptional educational outcomes for all students. Suitable applicants would join a highly collaborative and experienced Drama Learning Area and contribute to a culture of curiosity, courage and connection. They will ideally bring energy, expertise and a genuine passion for Drama education, inspiring students to think deeply, critically and creatively and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.
Applicants should display substantial professional knowledge, understanding and experience in delivering an engaging and rigorous secondary school Drama curriculum tailored to gifted students. Experience teaching Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Drama across both Year 11 and Year 12, with a strong understanding of the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) Drama syllabus, is highly desirable. Applicants with experience in ATAR Drama practical and written examination preparation and marking will also be highly regarded. Established connections with the professional arts and theatre industry would be considered an advantage, particularly where these connections can enrich student learning and provide authentic opportunities for students to engage with the broader Drama and performing arts community.
Practical experience in directing and managing theatrical productions from page to stage is highly desirable. Applicants should be confident working independently through the production process, including interpreting scripts, directing performers, developing staging and performance concepts, and independently plotting, teaching and dressing productions for performance. An ability to combine strong classroom practice with authentic production experience will be highly valued.
As Drama classes at JCCA are collaboratively taught, the suitable applicants will ideally display a strong capacity to work collaboratively in curriculum planning, assessment and delivery. Suitable applicants should be comfortable sharing classes and responsibility for student learning, contributing constructively to curriculum development and maintaining consistency in teaching, assessment and expectations across shared classes.
Suitable applicants would support the implementation of the College Business Plan, contribute positively to whole-College approaches and initiatives, and display a strong evidence-based approach to teaching and learning. A commitment to inclusive and student-centred practice, differentiation for highly able and gifted learners, and the development of positive relationships with students, staff and the community is highly valued.
JCCA is a leader in public education and the Arts. Our commitment is to develop students not only as accomplished learners and artists, but as confident, creative and capable young people. Through Drama, we seek to develop curiosity, innovation, imagination, collaboration and critical thinking, while nurturing student wellbeing and a lifelong engagement with the Arts.
