The Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) is transforming how education is delivered in Tasmania. Through the introduction of Multi-School Organisations (MSOs), we are bringing schools together under shared leadership to strengthen collaboration, streamline operations, and improve student outcomes.

With the first MSO launched in 2026, we are now recruiting a Head of Operations to help establish MSO 2 ahead of its 2027 launch. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking approach to education—supporting principals and teachers, reducing administrative burden, and enabling schools to focus on improving learning and wellbeing outcomes together.

About the Role

This role will see you lead the development and delivery of the MSO’s operational strategy, using innovative and evidence-based approaches to support improved educational outcomes. As a key member of the leadership team, you will align systems, processes, and culture to drive effectiveness and growth, while delivering high-quality, centralised services that enable school leaders to focus on teaching and learning.

Working closely with the CEO, you will ensure operations are strategically aligned to educational priorities, supporting consistency, scalability, and equity across the school network.

Who we are Looking For

  • Leadership experience with accountability across operations, finance, people, facilities, governance, corporate services, and/or transformation.
  • Proven capability in and knowledge of financial management, procurement, delegations, risk oversight, and compliance, including budget planning, resource allocation, and navigating regulatory, legislative compliance, and governance frameworks.
  • Experience building and improving systems in dynamic, reform-driven environments.
  • Proven ability to lead change, foster innovation, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse internal and external groups.
  • Driven by purpose and motivated by making a positive difference.

You will be based in one of our schools that will be part of MSO 2 in the north of the State - Ravenswood Heights Primary School, St Leonards Primary School or Youngtown Primary School. A vehicle will be provided for work-related purposes only. Flexible working arrangements; including start/end times and WFH days, and part-time options. Access to three (3) additional leave days (Christmas shutdown days) and purchased leave scheme. Access to WellbeingConnect program and Fitness Passport.

Come and join a purpose-driven team shaping Tasmania’s future. As part of our 12,000-strong workforce, you’ll play a vital role in supporting children and young people to be known, safe, well, and learning—from their earliest years through to adulthood. Whether you're in education, libraries, child safety, youth justice, out-of-home care or our support roles, your work will directly contribute to brighter lives and positive futures across the state. Be part of a child-centred agency where your impact matters every day.
