Longwall Superintendent – Moranbah

Grosvenor Mine – an underground steelmaking coal mine produced its first longwall coal in May 2016 and is located in Moranbah, about 190 km south-west of Mackay. We are building the team to deliver the next chapter of Grosvenor Mine. With a planned return to longwall production by Q4 2027, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to a major mine restart and help shape the future of underground mining.

Working alongside experienced professionals, you will play a role in implementing leading-edge technology, automation, monitoring systems and operational improvements that will define how the mine operates for years to come.

This senior operational role is responsible for safely leading the longwall function and delivering consistent production performance. You will coordinate people, equipment and operational priorities while working closely with maintenance, engineering and technical services teams.

This is an opportunity for an experienced underground coal mining leader to influence the safety, reliability and performance of a major longwall operation. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role will see you accountable for:

• Providing visible safety leadership across all longwall activities.
• Leading longwall production teams to achieve safety, production and operational objectives.
• Coordinating daily and weekly priorities across production, maintenance and technical functions.
• Monitoring longwall performance and responding effectively to changing conditions, risks and production constraints.
• Ensuring operations comply with legislative requirements, site standards and the Safety and Health Management System.
• Leading the application and review of operational controls, risk assessments and TARPs.
• Supporting longwall planning, panel readiness and safe production activities.
• Reviewing production performance, equipment availability and shift reporting.
• Building leadership capability through coaching, clear expectations and constructive feedback.
• Driving continuous improvement across safety, productivity, reliability and work practices.

You are an experienced underground coal mining leader with strong longwall production knowledge and a practical, visible leadership style. You will also bring:

• Extensive operational leadership experience within underground coal mining.
• Strong experience in longwall production and second workings.
• Demonstrated experience leading large operational teams.
• Strong knowledge of Queensland coal mining legislation and underground safety systems.
• First class miners or deputy ticket will be highly regarded but not essential.
• Experience managing operational risk, TARPs and changing mining conditions.
• Sound planning, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to work effectively across production, maintenance, engineering and technical teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management capability.
• A genuine commitment to safety, accountability and workforce engagement.

Relevant underground coal mining qualifications and competencies will be considered as part of the selection process.

Full-time permanent position based at Grosvenor Mine, Moranbah QLD. Monday to Friday staff role with 9-day fortnight available. Competitive Salary + 12% Super + Annual Bonus. Residential, FIFO (company funded) & DIDO options. Subsidised accommodation, housing, and company funded camp options provided. Several conveniently timed, daily bus transfers from the airport to camp and onto site. Relocation Assistance available if relocating to Moranbah.
