Day One Recruitment is partnering with a well-regarded Queensland organisation that operates in a highly regulated environment. They’re looking for an experienced lawyer to join their Regulation team as Principal Lawyer. The position is offered as a two-year contract role.
This is a intermediate to senior level, high-impact role. You’ll give authoritative advice on complex regulatory and compliance matters, help shape how a national regulatory framework develops, and work closely with executive leadership. What you’ll be doing
- Giving senior, specialist advice to executive leadership on interpreting, applying and improving legislation, regulations and regulatory conditions
- Reviewing work and guiding team members on complex or sensitive matters, and escalating strategic issues where needed
- Leading and contributing to projects that develop and improve the regulatory framework, both in Queensland and nationally
- Representing the organisation on national working groups and forums, and influencing outcomes while promoting consistency across jurisdictions
- Preparing high-level briefings and advice for senior executives and government stakeholders
- Engaging with industry and government stakeholders on changes to legislation, rules and processes
- Drafting regulatory documents, policy positions and correspondence on complex matters
About you
- Law degree, and admitted (or eligible for immediate admission) to practise in Queensland
- Solid experience giving legal advice backed by sound research and analysis
- A background in regulatory, government, administrative or property law
- Strong drafting skills, including regulatory instruments, contracts and other agreements
- An understanding of government policy and decision-making processes, which is highly regarded
- Exposure to contract, corporations or privacy law, which is advantageous
- Excellent communication and stakeholder skills, and confidence working both on your own and as part of a team
- A practical, organised approach and the ability to manage competing priorities
