The opportunity

Datacall is seeking an experienced, technically minded Industrial Automation Electrician to join our Mildura‑based engineering team. You will work alongside electrical and automation engineers, provide field support for industrial control systems, and play a key role in growing our switchboard and control panel manufacturing operation.
This newly created role suits a practical problem‑solver who wants variety, greater ownership and the opportunity to develop specialist skills—without stepping away from the tools.
What you’ll bring
- Ideally a current Victorian A Grade electrical licence; suitable electrical trade‑qualified candidates with relevant controls or switchboard experience will also be considered. Duties will be assigned in accordance with licensing requirements.
- Practical industrial electrical experience, including control wiring, fault finding, testing or commissioning.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings and troubleshoot methodically and safely.
- Exposure to PLCs, instrumentation, VSDs or automation systems.
- Strong initiative, communication skills and pride in quality workmanship.
- A current driver’s licence and willingness to undertake regional field work.
What you’ll do
- Diagnose and troubleshoot industrial electrical systems, PLC/SCADA, HMIs, instrumentation, VSDs and associated control equipment.
- Assist engineers with installation, testing, commissioning, fault finding and upgrades to automation and control systems.
- Support radio telemetry, RTUs, remote monitoring equipment and industrial communications networks.
- Build, wire, test and help coordinate manufacture of switchboards, motor control centres and industrial control panels.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings; provide practical input to engineering designs and equipment selections.
- Contribute to workshop planning, materials, quality procedures and the development of a growing manufacturing capability.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers and project teams; progressively take on more responsibility for workshop activities and team coordination.
Highly regarded
- Experience with PLC/HMI/SCADA diagnostics or configuration; radio telemetry and RTUs; industrial instruments; switchboard assembly and verification (including AS/NZS 61439); motor control centres; pumping, irrigation or water infrastructure; AutoCAD; estimating or team coordination. We value sound fundamentals, a strong work ethic, curiosity and a willingness to learn.
