About National Trust Queensland & the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital

Since its creation in 1989, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital has grown to be one of the busiest wildlife hospitals in the world, now treating over 14,000 animals every year. In addition, the hospital provides veterinary care to the Sanctuary animal collection and conducts world-leading research and conservation projects. The hospital is located within the grounds of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, one of 12 properties managed by National Trust of Australia Queensland (NTAQ). NTAQ is a membership-based community organisation and registered charity that works to conserve and advance our natural and cultural heritage for future generations.

To support the ever-increasing expansion of the Wildlife Hospital operations, we have an opportunity for a Full Time, 12 Month Max Term Wildlife Veterinary Nurse to join our highly respected Wildlife Hospital Team and assist in the diagnosis and treatment of admitted wildlife as well as the ongoing welfare of our Sanctuary species.

About the Role

The Wildlife Hospital is a dynamic and fast-paced environment, and the Veterinary Nurse will be responsible for providing an exceptional standard of health monitoring, clinical nursing, and husbandry care. Reporting to the Hospital Operations Manager, as an experienced Vet Nurse you will assist the Veterinarians during examinations and clinical/surgical procedures and undertake laboratory diagnostic procedures, including sample collection and storage. As a confident animal handler, you will be skilled in the safe capture and restraint of both native and exotic species and work with a team of dedicated Team Members and volunteers to ensure the welfare of the animals who stay at the veterinary clinic. As a broader member of NTAQ, you will also represent our Mission and Values and work to deliver the key message of the organisation.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will hold a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent recognised qualification and have prior experience in the veterinary industry, working with wildlife and exotic species. Other key skills and qualifications we are looking for include:

  • Strong understanding, knowledge and practical clinical nursing skills of zoo, exotic & native wildlife species
  • You will be an energised, diplomatic, highly capable, and personable individual with a genuine interest and passion for wildlife
  • Can demonstrate a highly flexible, cooperative, and positive attitude
  • Liaise and communicate in a friendly and effective manner with all key contacts including internal department staff, volunteers, and associated veterinary contacts

  • Free On-Site Parking
  • Tertiary Education Partners for access to recognised Qualifications
  • Flexible Working Arrangements and Study Leave
  • NTAQ Team Member Card offering unlimited entry to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and other SEQ sites and generous retail & food & beverage discounts.
