Casual Deckhands / Cruise Hosts — Cruise Brisbane River
This is a combined deckhand and hospitality role.
You'll assist with safe vessel operations, welcome guests, serve refreshments and help keep Maiwar clean and ready for each cruise.
All crew share practical preparation and cleaning duties, including toilets and service areas.
Safety and deck duties take priority over hospitality service when directed by the skipper.
Key responsibilities
- Welcome guests, check bookings and assist with safe boarding and disembarkation.
- Assist the skipper with lines, fenders, berthing, lookout and sailing duties within your training and authorisation.
- Support safety briefings, passenger supervision and emergency procedures.
- Prepare and serve drinks, refreshments and catering in accordance with procedures.
- Use onboard payment systems, and maintain accurate sales records.
- Provide friendly guest service and share information about Brisbane's river landmarks.
- Prepare for cruises, charters and events, and assist with turnaround between trips.
- Clean guest areas, toilets, service areas and equipment, and replenish supplies.
- Assist with routine vessel checks, equipment care and prompt defect reporting.
- Assist with vessel positioning between Rivergate Marina and departure pontoons as rostered.
About you
- Hospitality, customer service, tourism or deckhand experience.
- A friendly, confident manner and willingness to undertake both deck and hospitality duties.
- Strong safety awareness, reliability and comfort working on the water.
- Ability to follow the skipper's lawful and reasonable directions and work within your training and competence.
- Current Queensland-recognised RSA for alcohol-service duties.
- Current First Aid and CPR before commencing operational duties.
- Ability to perform the practical duties safely, with reasonable adjustments where required.
- Australian work rights and the required roster availability.
- Availability for evening, weekend and public holiday work is essential, alongside daytime shifts.

Cruise Brisbane River operates aboard Maiwar, a Seawind 1160 Resort sailing catamaran.
We offer morning, lunchtime and sunset cruises, private charters and events.
Guest departures are from our Maiwar information centre at Gardens Point, near the Goodwill Bridge, QUT and the QUT Gardens Point ferry terminal, with additional pickups from approved pontoons.
