Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts – Terrigal NSW
Are you an experienced HR professional who loves working with people, solving problems and helping leaders become better leaders? We’re looking for an HR generalist who brings energy, sound judgement and a genuine passion for people. Someone who can build trust, ask the right questions, navigate the tricky conversations and make sure the right things get done — properly, accurately and all the way through. This is a hands‑on, broad‑ranging role for someone who wants to make a real difference across the business.
You’ll work closely with employees, managers and the wider People team, supporting the entire employee journey — from onboarding and those all‑important first impressions through to development, performance, workplace challenges and, when necessary, exit. Importantly, this role is for someone who wants to grow. You’ll bring a strong HR foundation, practical experience and the confidence to take ownership. In return, you’ll have the opportunity to broaden your experience, sharpen your leadership capability and build the judgement needed for your next career step.
What you’ll be doing
- People, engagement and culture: Help create an engaging, positive and accountable workplace where people feel supported, heard and motivated. Contribute to employee engagement, wellbeing, development and retention initiatives. Build trusted relationships across teams and employee groups, providing approachable, professional and practical support. Be a visible, responsive and valued member of the wider People team.
- Coaching, supporting and developing leaders: Coach and support managers to lead their teams confidently, fairly and consistently. Help leaders navigate difficult conversations, performance concerns, conflict and behavioural issues. Build management capability by helping leaders understand not just what needs to happen, but how to handle it well.
- Employee and industrial relations: Provide practical advice on employee relations, industrial relations, employment conditions, policies, procedures and relevant workplace obligations. Support and manage workplace investigations, grievances, complaints and disciplinary processes. Help ensure matters are handled fairly, objectively, confidentially and consistently.
- The full employee lifecycle: Support the employee journey from recruitment and onboarding through induction, probation, development, employment changes and exit. Ensure employment documentation, processes and records are complete, accurate and up to date. Work collaboratively with the broader People team and relevant stakeholders to deliver a seamless, high-quality service.
- The details that make the difference: Maintain accurate, confidential and well‑organised employee records and case files. Prepare clear, factual and thorough investigation notes, meeting records, correspondence and outcome documentation. Follow actions through to completion — no loose ends, forgotten commitments or matters left sitting in the too‑hard basket.
What you’ll bring
- Demonstrated experience in a generalist HR role or comparable, with practical exposure to employee and industrial relations.
- Confidence supporting managers and employees across a broad range of people matters.
- Experience with workplace investigations, disciplinary processes, performance management and sensitive employee issues.
- A sound understanding of Australian employment obligations, relevant awards, enterprise agreements and workplace policies.
- Strong coaching, communication, relationship‑building and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent written communication and exceptional attention to detail, particularly when taking notes and documenting sensitive matters.
- Strong organisation, prioritisation and follow‑through, with the ability to manage a matter from beginning to end.
- Discretion, integrity, resilience and the confidence to have constructive conversations when things get uncomfortable.
- A genuine customer‑service mindset and a collaborative approach to working with the wider People team.
Your leadership potential matters
You don’t need to be a manager already, but you do need to be someone who is building towards it. You’re curious, commercially aware and comfortable taking ownership. You think beyond the immediate issue, look for better ways of working and understand the importance of consistency, fairness and accountability. You can work independently without operating in isolation. You know when to make a decision, when to seek advice and when to bring others along.
The bottom line
We’re looking for a capable, people‑focused HR professional who combines strong technical skills, practical judgement, genuine care for people and outstanding attention to detail. If you’re ready to take ownership, broaden your experience and build the capability to become a future People leader, we’d love to hear from you.
