Are you a passionate people leader with experience in volunteer engagement and organisational development? Do you thrive on building high-performing teams and creating meaningful volunteer experiences? The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) is seeking an exceptional leader to drive the development, support and sustainability of our volunteer workforce.
Reporting directly to the Chief Officer, this pivotal leadership role is responsible for shaping the volunteer experience across the entire lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through to training, development, wellbeing, recognition and retention. You will lead the ACTRFS Training and Membership Services team and play a key role in ensuring ACTRFS volunteers are supported, capable and ready to serve their communities. Leading a team that includes the Training Officer and Membership Officer, you will be responsible for building capability, supporting performance and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to volunteers across the ACT.
A further key element of this role is preparing high-quality reports, briefings, correspondence and other organisational documentation, providing sound advice to support ACTRFS strategic and operational decision-making. You will also contribute to governance activities, represent ACTRFS at meetings, committees and forums, and work collaboratively across operational and corporate teams to drive continuous improvement and organisational priorities.
Success in the role will depend on your ability to build strong and productive relationships with volunteers, brigades, operational leaders and key stakeholders. Through collaboration and effective stakeholder engagement, you will support service delivery outcomes and contribute to the ongoing development of ACTRFS as a contemporary and community-focused emergency service.
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.
The successful applicant may be required to undertake occasional after-hours work and attend community events. Background/security clearance checks will be conducted. This position does not require a pre-employment medical. Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
Note: This position will be required to work after hours and weekends, including attending meetings, local Brigade visits and through periods of operational response. Participation in the Duty Officer roster in either Service may also be required. Additional hours worked will be remunerated in accordance with the relevant enterprise agreement.
A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.
The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved.
