About the Role: You will play a key role in shaping and managing the accounting and tax landscape for our rapidly growing US and Canadian entities in Boston and Vancouver, whilst also supporting accounting across the rest of the group (UK, Singapore, China, Australia). This is a high-impact, internationally focused role where you will take ownership of US financial accounting while also contributing to global controllership and process improvements. The role blends technical accounting, tax awareness, and process improvement, with the opportunity to shape the role as the company grows.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Own the US accounting function, including month-end close, group audit support, US tax reporting, and other relevant US-wide filings.
  • Manage sub-group consolidations and ensure accurate, timely reporting across US and other entities within the group.
  • Oversee US tax activities, including estimated payments and coordination with external tax advisers for tax return preparation and compliance.
  • Contributing to cash flow forecasting, financial planning and risk analysis.
  • Preparing balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, prepayments, and accruals.
  • Ensuring proper intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and invoicing in a multinational context.
  • Maintaining accurate general ledger records and support multi-entity reporting.
  • Assist with year-end close, internal and external audits, and ongoing compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with global teams and external advisors to implement process improvements and change initiatives.

About You: This position is designed for recently qualified or near-qualified accountants who are keen to develop in technical accounting, tax compliance and controllership activities, with potential for future line-management responsibilities. We are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive, and ambitious individual who enjoys owning accounting processes, improving workflows, and working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. You should be comfortable taking on a varied role that intersects accounting, tax, and internal controls, with a mindset for continuous improvement.

Essential requirements for the role are:

  • Accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, US CPA, or equivalent), either recently qualified or close to completing qualification.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build robust and sustainable working relationships.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • An ability to plan, prioritise, and manage multiple deadlines effectively.
  • An eagerness to master new systems and understand company processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Desired Requirements for this role are:

  • Proven post-qualification working experience.
  • Understanding of US GAAP; familiarity with IFRS or other frameworks is a plus.
  • Knowledge or experience with US tax compliance and tax reporting.
  • External Audit experience (as auditor or in an audited environment).
  • Experience in a multinational environment and working with foreign rules and entities.
  • Experience with change management and process improvement initiatives.
  • International experience (particularly Singapore, China, Australia or Canada) is advantageous.
  • Interest in and willingness to engage in broader tax and controllership activities.

What we Offer: Alongside our award-winning company culture, we are proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • A starting salary from Β£50,000 per annum, depending on your qualifications and previous experience, as well as a discretionary profit share bonus paid twice per year.
  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank and public holidays, as well as a holiday buy and sell scheme.
  • Flexible working hours and the chance to work from home for up to half of your working time after passing probation.
  • Flexible benefits scheme offering cash payments, additional pension contributions and more.
  • Private Medical Insurance which offers comprehensive cover on a "medical history disregard" basis.
  • Paid study leave and funding for external qualifications.
  • Critical Illness Cover, Income Protection and Life Assurance.
  • Paid and unpaid sabbaticals based on length of service.

Hybrid Working Policy: We believe that having face-to-face time in the office holds many benefits and is central to ensuring that the community we have created is never lost. At the same time, we recognise that homeworking can improve work life balance, reduce commuting times and costs, and provide the opportunity to juggle personal commitments. Therefore, we offer flexible working arrangements that allow our colleagues who have passed probation to work from home for up to half their time, measured across a 2-week rolling period.

The Application Process: You are required to submit your CV and a cover letter via our online application form. In your cover letter, you must explain why you think you would be suited to the role and why you would like to join Costello Medical, with examples to support both. Your CV should clearly state the dates of all qualifications and grades achieved, where applicable. Our recruitment process then begins with a telephone interview conducted by a member of the Talent Acquisition team, followed by an assessment for you to complete in your own time. If successful, you will be invited to an interview in our office with senior members of the Finance team. Please note that the successful candidate may be required to undergo security/background checks, and any employment offer will be conditional on the results of these.
