Sami Bitumen Technologies was formed in 1978 to meet a market need for new bitumen technology and remains an industry leader in research and development. SAMI is part ofCOLAS, a global leader within the Transport Infrastructure Industry, with activities in every aspect of construction and maintenance of roads, air, rail and marine infrastructure.
The Role
SAMI is currently seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to join the team at our Port of Brisbane site. The successful candidate will need to be flexible with working different shift patterns, including weekends if required.
Key responsibilities include:
- Testing of bituminous binders and mixtures
- Manage the storage, retention, and disposal of samples in a responsible manner
- Ensure the calibration of laboratory equipment is scheduled and completed on time
- Ensure that the lab utensils and equipment are properly cleaned and stored after use
- Ensure the integrity of lab equipment by reporting faulty equipment immediately to the Lab Supervisor
- Preparation of test reports and assessments for lab supervisor review and sign off
- Capture test results in lab management information system as required
- Maintain records/documentation control for all activities to meet quality requirements and ensure continuance with all legal and safety requirements
The Ideal Candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
- Cert IV in Laboratory Techniques or degree in chemistry or engineering
- Previous experience in a similar role
ABILITY TO WORK DIFFERENT SHIFT PATTERNS, INCLUDING WEEKENDS
- Good communicative and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure and work through issues
- Methodical and good record keeping skills
- Intermediate – MS Excel and MS Word
