ABOUT USCobar is a rural mining community located in western New South Wales, far removed from the hustle and bustle of city living. Council owns and operates the Cobar Shire & TAFE Library, Great Cobar Heritage Centre, Lilliane Brady Village (aged care facility), Children's Services, Youth & Community Centre as well as works depots in Euabalong and Cobar. Our core values - Accountability, Communication, Effective Leadership, Integrity and Teamwork (ACE IT) represent who we are as an organisation. They are the agreed guiding principles for how we carry out our duties and interact with our community.

ABOUT YOUYour experience in animal handling and regulatory compliance, combined with your ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement in complex situations, will support your success in this role. Our ideal candidate is a practical, solutions-focused compliance professional who is confident working in the field and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders. You bring strong communication skills, the ability to negotiate positive outcomes in challenging situations, and the confidence to apply legislation fairly and consistently. You enjoy a varied role where no two days are the same and take pride in contributing to a safe and well-managed community.

ABOUT THE ROLEThe Compliance Officer is responsible for delivering high-quality compliance, enforcement and customer service functions that support the safety and liveability of Cobar Shire. The role involves investigating complaints, undertaking patrols, animal handling, and applying relevant legislation across companion animals, littering and water pollution, abandoned vehicles, public safety hazards, parks and reserves, building sites, and obstructions within public spaces. This is a hands-on regulatory role with a high level of autonomy, involving both proactive community engagement and formal enforcement action where required.

This position is classified as Band 2 Level 3 (up to $98,000) plus superannuation and relocation, with employment conditions in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award. The role operates on a 9-day fortnight (38 hours per week) and involves overtime and on-call opportunities where operationally required.

Cobar Shire Council welcomes applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, workers of all ages, people with disabilities and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
