About the Opportunity
The Heritage Advisor plays an important role in helping protect and celebrate the character and history of the City of Adelaide's built heritage. Working within the Park Lands, Policy & Sustainability Program, this role supports the delivery of Council's Heritage Strategy through providing expert heritage advice, and supporting the operation of the Heritage Incentives Scheme and heritage conservation projects from both the council Heritage Strategy and the National Heritage Management Plan.

You’ll work closely with owners and occupiers of heritage-listed properties, providing practical architectural and heritage conservation advice to help preserve and enhance some of the city’s most historically significant places. The role also supports funding application assessments, heritage-related development assessments, inspecting heritage conservation works, and ensuring projects align with recognised heritage conservation principles, including the Australian ICOMOS Burra Charter.

This is a collaborative and community-focused role where relationship building is key. You’ll partner with property owners, stakeholders and internal teams to support thoughtful conservation outcomes that reinforce the distinctive character and identity of Adelaide. Alongside providing heritage and urban design advice across Council projects and development applications, you’ll contribute to initiatives that promote and strengthen heritage conservation across the city.

If you’re passionate about built heritage conservation, enjoy balancing technical expertise with stakeholder engagement, and want to help shape the future of Adelaide’s historic places, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
