Lead a great team. Build quality work. Grow with us.
At CIE Australia, we take pride in high-quality fabrication and attention to detail on every job. We're looking for an experienced Sheetmetal Supervisor to lead our team of 8β10 across our Sheetmetal Workshop in Portsmith and our factory in Bungalow, Cairns.
This is a leadership role first.
Our team already works well together, and we need a leader who can make a good team great. You'll get to know your people, understand what makes each of them tick, and step in with skill and fairness when challenges arise. You don't need to be an engineer, but you do need to know fabrication inside out and love bringing out the best in people.
You'll also be a key link across the business, working closely with our Electrical Design Engineers and Electricians to make sure every build meets standard, and coordinating with our Production Manager and General Manager to keep output on track and timeframes realistic.
About us
CIE designs, manufactures and maintains high-quality engineered solutions for the mining industry. Headquartered in Cairns, Far North Queensland, with a branch in Brisbane, our products are custom-built to client specifications and used at mining and industrial sites across Australia and around the world. They're built to meet exacting Australian and international standards, and to perform in some of the toughest conditions on the planet.
Our sheet metal division uses 3D CAD design and advanced CNC equipment to produce precision-fabricated products, including electrical enclosures for the mining sector that are tested to Australian arc fault containment standards. Our qualified welders and fabricators work in zinc annealed, stainless and mild steel using MIG, TIG and flux-cored welding, with every job backed by rigorous quality control and NDT testing.
The equipment you'll work with
4kW LVD Lynx FL-3015 CNC fibre laser with NITROCUBE nitrogen generation
200-tonne LVD PPED 200/40 CNC press brake
LVD CADMAN-L and CADMAN-B programming software
About the role
Lead, supervise and mentor a team of 8β10 fabricators
Work closely with our Electrical Design Engineers and Electricians to ensure fabrication meets design and quality standards
Coordinate with the Production Manager and General Manager to plan workload and set realistic delivery timeframes
Drive efficient workshop output while maintaining high-quality standards
Lead system reviews to identify efficiencies, with clear targets and realistic timelines
Support your team in line with our HR practices, including equity, anti-discrimination, WHS and ethical behaviour
Deliver quality service to internal and external customers
Design and drafting
Produce 3D models in Autodesk Inventor and detailed 2D workshop drawings
Program our CNC laser and CNC press brake using LVD CADMAN software
Review specifications, sketches and drawings to assess design requirements
Revise designs based on workshop feedback and work with others to solve design problems
Workshop and operations
Manage safety and risk through our WHS Management System
Manage material supply and movement for timely allocation and accurate job costing
Manage and develop welding procedures, NDT, welder qualifications and project documentation
Oversee consumables and scheduled machinery maintenance
Ensure quality assurance is applied to every job
Coordinate painting, powder coating and galvanising with our subcontractors
About you
Proven experience leading a team in a fabrication environment, with a track record of building trust and getting the best out of people
Strong people skills: you read personalities well, resolve conflict fairly and lead by example
Confident communicating across teams, from the workshop floor to engineers and management
Sound knowledge of sheetmetal fabrication in steel and stainless steel, plus medium to heavy mild steel fabrication
Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (3D) and 2D drafting
Experience programming CNC lasers and press brakes (CADMAN or Lantek experience highly regarded)
A high standard of workmanship and a sharp eye for detail
A commitment to safety and ethical decision-making
