Influence patient safety at a whole-of-service level. Strengthen clinical governance and drive organisational learning and continuous improvement across Perth Children’s Hospital and Neonatology (PCHN). We currently have 2.3 FTE available for appointment. Full Time, Part Time and Job Share arrangements will be considered. Applicants assessed as suitable through this process will be considered for other vacancies within the team (within the next 12 months).

The PCHN Safety, Quality and Performance team is evolving, with a strong focus on supporting frontline care delivery, strengthening contemporary governance and service improvement, and embedding robust safety and quality systems across PCHN.

About the Role: Perth Children’s Hospital and Neonatology (PCHN) are seeking an experienced Coordinator Safety and Quality to support and advance clinical governance, safety and quality improvement across our services, in alignment with health service standards, accreditation requirements and organisational priorities. This is an opportunity to help embed continuous quality improvement across our hospital environment, and strengthen systems that support safe, high-quality care for children, young people and their families.

You will gain broad experience in supporting and coordinating the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of effective safety and quality systems, clinical incident management and policy across PCHN, along with project management and change management skills in translating improvement opportunities into meaningful and sustainable change.

Reporting to the Director, Safety, Quality and Performance PCHN, you will apply your understanding of clinical governance frameworks and relevant national health service standards, and work closely with clinical and operational teams to provide advice on safety and quality systems, support local and service-wide improvements, build safety and quality capability, and foster a collaborative safety and learning culture.

Key responsibilities:

  • Undertaking advanced analysis and interpretation of complex safety, quality and performance data, clinical indicators and audit outcomes to identify emerging risks, investigate system issues and develop practical, evidence-based improvement strategies.
  • Leading and supporting quality improvement and clinical audit initiatives, including translating audit findings into practical local and service-wide improvements.
  • Supporting clinical incident and risk management, including facilitating investigations, developing remedial actions and monitoring clinical risks.
  • Driving a culture of learning, transparency and continuous improvement across PCHN, through the promotion of incident reporting, organisational learning and continuous improvement.
  • Facilitating clinical audits, compliance monitoring and policy reviews to strengthen clinical governance.
  • Coordinating policy governance and compliance monitoring, including the development, review and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Building safety and quality capability and influencing practice through effective partnerships with clinical teams, directorates and governance committees to advance clinical governance, accreditation and improvement priorities.

About You: If you have experience coordinating and supporting clinical governance, quality improvement, clinical incident and risk management, policy or related systems within a health context, we encourage you to apply. You will also bring strong conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills, together with the ability to manage competing priorities, deliver outcomes within timeframes and support effective change.

About our Team: Our team works in partnership with the PCHN directorates (Medical, Surgical, Allied Health & Neonatology), clinical teams and CAHS colleagues to support safe, high-quality care. We lead and coordinate work across clinical governance, accreditation readiness, quality improvement, clinical incident and risk management, policy, safety and quality performance reporting and system-wide learning.

Through engagement with our workforce and consumers we ensure that our patients and their families are active partners in their healthcare journey and contribute to the continuous improvement of our services. We are committed to fostering a culture of learning, continuous improvement and innovation, identifying emerging trends, evaluating best practice and implementing practical solutions that strengthen patient safety and improve outcomes for children, young people and their families.

We are looking for collaborative and motivated, improvement-minded people who can build strong relationships, support PCHN and CAHS to deliver on safety and quality priorities, and help drive practical, sustainable improvements across PCHN.

Eligibility: To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have valid Australian work rights. This includes visa holders. Permanent appointments may be made to individuals who hold citizenship, permanent residency, or visas that enable ongoing employment in Australia. Sponsorship is not currently available for this position.

Other Conditions: WA Health engages staff in positions of trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require applicants to undertake a criminal records screening and integrity checking as part of the appointment process. As well as undertaking a criminal record screening and integrity checking, you may also be required to undertake a working with children check (if required for the role) and a pre-employment health assessment.

Equal Opportunities and Diversity: WA Health is committed to eliminating all forms of discrimination in the provision of our service. We embrace diversity and strongly encourage applications from people from culturally diverse backgrounds and people with disabilities. In addition, we are committed to growing our Aboriginal workforce as part of WA Health Aboriginal Workforce Policy.

As a measure to achieve equality, Section 51 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 applies to this position and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are encouraged to apply.

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
