Workshop Manager | Hands-On Role | Fleet & Heavy Plant

Keep the Fleet Moving – Work Local, Competitive salary package.

Are you a Senior Fitter, Mechanic, or Leading Hand ready to take the next step into managing a workshop? We're looking for a Hands-On Workshop Manager to take ownership of our civil & electrical construction fleet, plant and small equipment - and to grow into running the whole maintenance operation their way.

This isn't a role where you'll be stuck behind a desk filling out spreadsheets. You'll be at the heart of our operations - on the tools keeping gear running, while building up the scheduling, ordering and coordination side as you go.

What's in it for you?

  • Competitive Pay: We value expertise and pay accordingly to attract the best in the trade.
  • Benefits & Allowances: Company vehicle, fuel card, and mobile phone provided
  • True Autonomy: You manage the schedule and you run the workshop your way.
  • Work Locally: Work locally - no FIFO, no long commutes, home every night.
  • Variety of Gear: From light vehicles and trucks to earthmoving gear and small plant, no two days are the same.

The Role

As Workshop Manager, you'll be hands-on servicing and repairing our fleet while taking on responsibility for its end-to-end health β€” liaising with project managers, coordinating external specialists and keeping things running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on Maintenance: Perform servicing, diagnostics, and repairs on motor vehicles, trucks (Crane trucks, EWP's, Tippers) earthmoving plant (Excavators, Skidsteers, Backhoes).
  • Fleet Management: building and overseeing preventative maintenance schedules to minimise downtime.
  • External Coordination: Manage relationships and quality control for overflow work and specialist external repairs.
  • Small Plant Care: keeping our smaller assets and tools serviced and site-ready
  • Safety First: Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant workshop environment.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Trade Qualified: Diesel Fitter, Heavy Vehicle or Motor Mechanic qualifications.
  • Industry Experience: Proven experience working with earthmoving equipment. A minimum of 3-5 years experience preferred.
  • Other Skills highly regarded: Auto electrical, Hydraulics, Spray painting, Welding, CV Truck mounted Crane, LF Forklift, other operator tickets.
  • The "Owner" Mindset: You take pride in the fleet as if it were your own and don't need hand-holding to get the job done.
  • Problem Solver: Ability to diagnose complex faults and decide whether to fix them in-house or outsource for efficiency.
  • Lead from the ground: A genuine willingness to be on the tools, not just directing others
  • Licensing: A heavy vehicle license (HR) is highly regarded.
